Can anyone think of a girl name that is similar to Joshua? We have close friends who lost their little boy, Joshua, when he was 11 days old, and we would really like to name our baby after him. I've thought of Jocelyn, but don't have any other ideas.

Re: Female form of Joshua?
I think Johanna/Joanna is a good suggestion.
There's also Jerusha (juh-ROO-shuh) ? it's a Biblical name and I love it, but it is a bit . . . rare.

PPs gave good name sugggestions....I just wanted to add that you should talk to the parents before doing this. You don't know if they plan to honor their son somehow, or if one of their sisters/brothers plans on honoring their nephew. I realize you said CLOSE friend, but family does come first. Sorry about their loss.
Ditto. I wanted to name one of my DDs after my BFFs DD who was born too early due to a placental abruption. I asked her first and she thought about it and said that she didn't think she could handle it, but it was sweet that I wanted to think of Elise. You never really get over the loss,of a baby or child, but the sting of a close friend with a live baby walking around saying that her baby was named after this other baby who isn't living might be more than she can handle.
