Tell me about acupuncture....

Has anyone done acupuncture? My RE suggested that I start now and gave me a few recommendations in my area, but I am really nervous about it. Any advice? How was it? How much did it cost? TIA!

I started acu with our second cycle.  I LOVE it!  My first suggestion is to find an acu who specializes in IF.  It's great to have someone to talk to who understands your cycles.  Find out if the acu will come to your ET.  Treatments immediately before and after ET are strongly encouraged.

Second, I'd suggest starting as soon as you can.  I have no idea of it helps with outcome, but it definitely helps manage my stress level.

Third, I think it's really important to find someone who you feel comfortable with -- who you click with.  My acu has turned into be so much more.  She's a tremendous support for me and I feel like I couldn't do this without her.

I've paid $50-75 per treatment.   Don't be nervous! There's nothing to it. Your job is just to relax.  And it doesn't hurt.  Some needling can be uncomfortable depending on the location, but it feels fine again within seconds once the needle is placed.

Expecting our capstone baby (boy) early March 2018.

I second everything AmCheri said. I've been going since August and I love it. It's very relaxing. I pay $70 per session. I go weekly and find it extremely helpful both for reducing stress and for support. I see my acu more often than my doc or clinic!!

I started accu with my second IVF cycle. I enjoy it much more than I thought I would! My first treatment was $85 and each one after that is $65. My accu's office is 10 minutes from my RE so the day of ET we went there first and came back after. She charged me $100 for that days two treatments. Some spots do hurt but only for a few seconds, most don't hurt at all.

  • Love it! Been getting it for stress mostly (d/t IF).

It can be a bit uncomfortable if you are tense, but after my acu leaves the room is when I really relax.

My sessions last about 45 min and range anywhere from 50-75.00

Every time I leave I feel like a weight is lifted off my shoulders. It's GREAT and I hope you enjoy it!

Ditto everyone else... I can't say enough good things about acupuncture.  It was relaxing and great to have someone else aside from my doctor to talk to about the IVF process.  I did it for both our IVF cycles and plan to do it again for our FET.

I felt it made me feel very "zen" because I didn't have any crying meltdowns while cycling -- except when they failed, of course!

Try it!  Best of luck to you.

  • Thanks ladies! I plan on calling tomorrow and setting up an appointment.....wishing for the best! Smile

  • I've been going for almost a year. I love it. My insurance actually covers it, so I only pay $20 per session but she charges $90. It is amazingly relaxing. It doesn't hurt since the needles are so thin. When she does it in certain spots it's a bit pinchy but that only lasts a second. She has spa-like music on and I take the best nap of my life in there. She really helped my follicles grow (they were slow starters) and I strongly believe she helped me get pregnant during my last IVF cycle. I'm going to her right before my ET on Monday.
