TTC after 35

Triggering tonight-ER on Friday!

I am so happy to be writing this post, finally. I was beginning to think I would never make it to this point of the process!

This morning my follies measured 19 (the one on the left which was only 15 yesterday) and the ones on the right are 16, 17 and 18.

I will trigger with 2 ovidrels tonight at midnight, go back in tomorrow for yet another U/S and B/W because I love to leave my house at 6:00 AM 4 days in a row :)

ER is scheduled for noon on Friday. I'll get the fert report over the weekend, not sure how I will ever stand waiting for that phone call...Transfer will likely be 5/24, the day before my 40th! Beta will be on 5/31 I am pretty sure, I think I stopped  listening at some point, I'll have to ask tomorrow

Here is what I don't get. How come one Ovidrel triggers ovulation for IUI, but 2 ovidrels are ok to wait 36 hours. How do they know I won't ovulate before then? I know they know what they are doing, I just don't understand how it works really.

I also found out that I will be doing the Progesterone injections. Until now I have handled the injections on my own since I'm not squeamish about it, I guess DH will have to get involved now. Not looking forward to that but whatever.

Thanks for reading my copious posts this week and for your never ending support. I really don't know what I would do without all of you!

TTC since 3/2010. Me 41, DH-49. After 3 years, 6 IUIs and several IVFs we have finally have our beautiful baby girl, born on 11/7/13.

Re: Triggering tonight-ER on Friday!

  • SSSSOOOO happy for you to be getting to this point!!!!!!  I'm not sure about the double shots.  I would put my trust in the doctor's office & that they know what they're doing.  And to have ET the day before you're birthday?  What an amazing birthday gift this would be!!!!!  Praying for you!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic news! I'm so happy for you. And not even 2, but 4 mature follicles!

I don't know the answer to your question, but try not to stress. The doctors know what they are doing.

  • Happy birthday early!! Wouldn't that be a wonderful gift!

  • HOORAY!!!  I'm so happy you finally made it to retrieval!

Can't answer your question re Ovidrel, I triggered with HCG.  You are on Lupron right?  The Lupron will prevent you from ovulating (I'm sure all of us had this fear prior to retrieval).

PIO is not fun, but it's not something you can't handle either.  DH did my shots too, think of it as a bonding experience ;)

  • Exciting news good luck! I would imagine your not surging at all so they're having you use two. I usually use one, but the iui has varied from 24 to 36 hrs depending on if I'm surging on my own or not. If your not surging at all, you have a pretty big window to work with even with 2 ovridrels.

And I didn't do progesterone shots, but my DH did have to give me my big trigger shot in the butt. I was more nervous than he was. He loved stabbing me with a huge needle, and did a better job than I would have.

Fingers crossed and good vibes coming your way!

    Yay. So excited for you.

The Ovidrel is HCG you just need a larger dose. The purpose is actually to help the eggs mature. You won't ovulate on your own while on Lupron.

And PIO is not that bad. I give them to myself. It's pretty easy and painless.

  • Reading through all of your posts, thank you so much for all of the support, your thoughts, prayers and everything crossed mean a lot to me!

My retrieval is at noon on Friday.  I had to do another shot of ovidrel tonight because my progesterone is still very low (.8) and they want to see it higher, but the nurse assured me there is no reason to worry, that they do ask some people to do another trigger prior to retrieval. I was just glad I had one more ovidrel in the refrigerator!  they also have assured me I am not going to ovulate prior to retrieval and that I shouldn't worry about that.

I do recall seeing an episode of The Little Couple when she was going for a retrieval of her 1 follicle and she ovulated while she was getting changed or something like that so maybe that's why I am afraid of that. I don't remember the circumstances of that situation.Ugh stupid reality TV shows!

Anyway, I am NOT worrying, I'm just so glad to be at retrieval!  Thanks again everyone!
