TTC After a Loss

A temping question

One of the reasons I have avoided temping is that I am a very restless sleeper. I also get up to pee at least twice a night. I am considering temping if I get a BFN this cycle, but I am wondering if my lack of good sleep will interfere with getting accurate results. I plan to do a little research on my own, but was wondering what some of you experienced tempers-charters think.

I think you should give it a try.  If you are consistently getting up in the middle of the night then I think it will still show a temp shift.  GL!

    This.

I am not a great sleeper either, i wake up a couple of times a night, but I can still see a pretty clear pattern in my temps.

Yeah, this.  Give it a try!

  • It's worth a try. Why do you get up in the night? If it's to use the bathroom, you can try to reduce your liquids before bed so maybe you get up once instead of twice. I temp at 4:50 a.m. b/c that's when DH's alarm goes off. So if I do have to go to the bathroom, I can do so before I actually have to get up. I find my temp is usually pretty accurate if I haven't physically gotten up in at least two hours. I have a toddler so I've had plenty of reasons to get up and I'm still def. able to determine temp shifts. HTH and GL!

  • Thanks! I think I am going to do a little research and give it a try next cycle.

  • I am the exact same way. I am a super light sleeper, and I get up to pee at LEAST 2 times, often more. This is only my 2nd cycle temping, but I can share my experience. My first cycle temping, I had a very clear temp shift. I know that it did detect O because I got pregnant that cycle. Now, on my 2nd temping cycle, I am only 5DPO so hard to say for sure yet but so far it looks like a pretty clear temp shift. But my HCG isn't even 0 yet so my hormones are probably still doing weird things.

I also don't temp at the exact same time every morning. I try to keep it within an hour of the same time. But often I'll wake up before my alarm, so if that happens, I take my temp then. I usually use the temp that's after the most sleep. My temps seem to be lower if I haven't slept for more than 30min-1hr before taking my temp. I kind of wing it and so far it's worked out.

So I'd say if you want to try it, try it. If it works it works, and if not, then at least you tried. GL!

  • I get up a couple of times a night and i still see a temp shift.  Can't hurt to give it a try!

  • My first cycle temping was pretty erratic, and I had so much anxiety from it that I woke up through the night constantly and would temp at different times. I had a lot of open circles but still was able to see a temp shift, and got a bfp that cycle.

This cycle was also pretty erratic, and I had much less anxiety and temped at the exact same time every day and never once got up to pee in the middle of the night. I had two nights where I drank a lot but otherwise everything else was consistent. Jury's still out on the results of this cycle.

What I'm getting at is that it doesn't matter too much how structured your temping is so it's worth giving it a try.
