i have never posted here, but i believe this is the best place for my question.
I would like to start seriously focusing on my weight loss. my son bf's when he wakes up, to nap and during his nap, when he falls asleep and about twice at night. during his sleep its mostly for comfort; and he comfort nurses when he gets hurt or is sick.
I want to lose weight and have started on a free program online that calculates your calorie intake according to weight, height, activity and if you are breastfeeding. it does not ask how much i breastfeed but it does ask the age of the child. it gives me a calorie intake of 2400. does that sound reasonable?

Re: bf'ing a 12month old.
Exclusively breastfeeding (6 months and under, no other foods/formula) uses about 500 calories. So, if you weren't trying to lose weight and followed a 2000 calorie diet pre-preg, you'd need 2500 to maintain your weight while breastfeeding.
So, when trying to lose weight with a baby that is only getting half his nutrition from you or less, I would expect a calorie intake lower than 2400. I would probably try to get it closer to 2000 or 2100 - based purely on lowering intake by 200 for anyone in general to lose weight and saying you need 200-300 extra for the breastfeeding. But I'm no expert and that's just my first thought.
If you're making drastic changes to your diet to get down to that number, expect that you might have a supply dip. It's ok since your LO is older, but just be mindful that he might need more food and water/milk each day.
