3rd Trimester

haven't gained weight in a month

It's been a month and I haven't gained weight. Is this normal at 34 weeks? Two weeks ago I didn't gain any weight from my previous appointment and then today I lost a pound since my last weigh in, which was two weeks ago. I haven't been doing anything differently. I'm assuming that my baby is still growing and I'm sure my doctor would say something if it were an issue, right? He actually started off the appointment saying that my weight and blood pressure are great. I'm just paranoid and want to make sure my baby is still growing.

Re: haven't gained weight in a month

  • I gained a pound between 27 weeks and my 33 week appointment. Little one is definitely growing :)

  • Lucky this is over the internet or I might have to smack you both.  Just kidding.   I have put on a total of 27 lbs so far and 13 of those have been in the past month!

Yes, LO will take what they need from you, right down the calcium out of your bones.  From what I have heard it is not uncommon to stop gaining and even lose a few pounds toward the end of your pregnancy.  If your doctor isn't concerned, I wouldn't be.  Just make sure you are still getting those pre-natals in each day.  Good luck!

Haha! Well the part I didn't mention was I gained 30 lbs as of that 27 week mark. So I was thanking my lucky stars that I hadn't gained anymore so far! LOL Stick out tongue

  • Yup, and I also gained 26 pounds so far just nothing in the past month. There was one time period, around week 25 where I gained 9 pounds in 4 weeks. I'm sure everything is fine and I take my prenatals religiously! Thanks everyone.

If your doctor has not mentioned your weight being a problem then I wouldn't worry about it! Heck, I wish I would stop gaining so much! I'm putting on the pounds lately!

You are forgiven thenBig Smile.  I truly think that each person has a "normal" weight gain for their pregnacies.  My Dr doesn't like women to gain more than 35 lbs...ever.  But I have  a friend who is very active and a very healthy eater who gains 40 lbs each time she is pregnant.  All the women I know also have a certain month or two where they gain most of their weight.  Mine just happens to be towards the end.  Another friend of mine, doesn't tend to gain any weight in her first trimester or the last 8 weeks of her 3rd trimester.

  • Baby is probably still gaining and you may have lost some weight from your body. DD was estimated at 8 lbs 11 oz via ultrasound at 36 weeks, I have a big ole bump yet have only gained 3-4 lbs. People comment how my face is thinner and I have noticed wrinkles around my eyes and mouth (eek!) so I think she is sucking all the life out of me.

I've gained a total of 4 lbs the entire pregnancy, yet doc says my LO is just fine. So unless they tell you otherwise, no need to worry about it! :D

  • I was sick the first 5 months of my pregnancy. I am a bigger woman, and went down 22 lbs during that time. I am 35 weeks and still weigh 10lbs less than before I got pregnant. I am not sick anymore and eat all the time. I can not seem to gain anymore weight. Dr. said because I had extra weight, this was also normal. Baby is still growing.
