My ob/gyn's office faxed me the RPL tests results and I had an earlier post where I mentioned the positive ANA and elevated anti-thyroid microsomal. NOW, I see on the report that I tested positive for one copy of the c677t mutation of MTHFR (Heterozygous). Dr Google told me there are people that have one copy and people that have two copies. Anyone know if one copy needs to be treated the same as two copies? WHY DIDN'T MY OB mention this!? I'll call him tomorrow! ARGH
Re: AND this too!!?!??? MTHFR
P,
You are heterozygous for the MTHFR polymorphism. This is the more common and usually less severe form of the mutation. However, you still have a limited ability to metabolize synthetic folic acid (the type found in enriched foods as well as most supplements). This puts you at risk for folate deficiency related pregnancy complications. You might want to ask your doctor about active L-methylfolate. L-methylfolate bypasses the MTHFR mutation is directly available for DNA synthesis and repair. It is 7 times more bioavailable than synthetic folic acid. It is something simple and safe you can do to be sure folate deficiency is not an issue while trying to conceive and during pregnancy.
