Baby Names

In the mood to help name a stranger's kid?

Stuck on what to name our daughter.  Is Lorelei still too "Gilmore Girls", or will that fade away as she gets older?

Renee is my sister's MN, and I'd love to name a daughter after her (but I don't want to use her first name, or use Renee as a first name).  Our last name is extremely common and boring, and has two syllables.

  • I love Audrey, not a huge fan of Lorelei but it's not a bad name.

I didn't vote because I like both names a lot. And, FWIW, I don't think this generation will have any idea who the Gilmore Girls were... :)

  • Audrey is ok, but I love Lorelai. I haven't any idea what Gilmore Girls is, but a lot of people here seem to know it. A tv show from what I understand...
  • I like Audrey. As for Lorelei, I agree that generation won't know unless you show them the show. I happen to love Gilmore Girls but don't really like the name Lorelei but if I have a girl, we're going to name her Aurora so I can call her Rory:).

Because your last name has two syllables, I'd use a first name that has a different number of syllables.  Maybe I'm just saying that because I prefer Lorelei.  I do think it has a Gilmore Girls connection for most people, but Lorelei Gilmore was one of the most awesome characters ever and I'd name my kid after her.  ;)

  • I love both names.  You really can't go wrong.  I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan, so I voted for Lorelei.  She was awesome!  At least it's a good name association ;)

I LOVE Lorelei, but spelled Lorelai.

That's my other question--lei or lai?  Which is more traditional?

I like Lorelei. Never seen Gilmore Girls...Someone I know just named her daughter Lorelei several weeks ago. Looks beautiful, but I wasn't 100% sure how to pronounce it since I've never heard it before.
