how to get rid of bloating

I have been super bloated since I was 5 weeks pregnant. I?m so tired of feeling and looking like a fatty. I?m not constipated or over eating and Doesn?t matter what I eat I still look bloated and by the end of the day I look like I?m 16 weeks pregnant. Is there anything I can take or that makes it go away!? It?s uncomfortable and driving me crazy!

Re: how to get rid of bloating

  • Take a big dump.

No, really, I think you'll just have to wait it out.  It'll go away when your body is used to the hormones that are slowing down your GI tract and all other smooth muscle tissue.

  • I believe they say drinking lots of water is supposed to help, but all that does for me is make me pee my pants every time I puke or sneeze.  And yet bloat remains.

  • PP, I know you didn't mean that to be funny, but it made me laugh.  I am sorry for your issues though.

I gave up and went to the thrift store for new pants. At least in bigger pants, I can breathe. And it helped that they are way too big everywhere but my belly. They even had a cute pair of maternity jeans there, my size!  So big score, two pairs of work pants and a pair of maternity jeans (that I can sadly wear now because of the bloat) for $9.  Drink plenty of water, exercise if you can, wear comfortable clothes that don't squeeze you, and wait it out.

There's one girl here who uses ground flax seed to keep things moving. I have flax seed in the fridge, not ground yet, but I'm afraid of getting sick on it if I try to add it to anything.

  • At 5 weeks I was the same way, I looked like I was 5 mths preggo at night. At 61/2 weeks m/s kicked in and my tummy was flat again. The bloating is coming back at 9 weeks though.

  • It's gas, apparently. It's caused by the slowing down of the digestive system because of hormones. Foods that are harder to digest will take even longer, like dairy and beans, for example. So, you can avoid foods like that.

Supposedly exercise helps... the site I was reading did not say why. But....I think I know why. Let's just say you don't want to be running behind me when I'm pregnant. Big Smile (this probably isn't why, but I don't feel like researching it for myself!)
