Refusing spoon feeding

DS decided last week that he no longer wanted to be spoon fed. Now this wouldn't be a big issue if he would self-feed, but he doesn't. The only finger foods he will eat are "dry" finger foods like Cheerios, Puffs, and cheese. Any "mushy" finger foods, like banana, avocado, cooked carrots, chicken, etc. he just throws on the floor and if he does get one in his mouth, he spits it out.

Thankfully, I discovered that the Earths Best and Plum pouches, he can sort of drink it straight out of the pouch so at least he gets some fruits/veggies in his diet. Any of you have this issue and any other suggestions? TIA

Re: Refusing spoon feeding

  • Indy hasn't let me spoon feed him for MONTHS! At the start the only fruits and veggies he would eat were dried, carrot, beet, banana chips. But I always gave him fresh stuff too and now he eats it no problem.

    Just give him time.

  • You could try freeze dried fruit(it dissolves easily in their mouth), beans(kidney, black), whole wheat waffle, baby goldfish, blueberries cut in half, mandarin oranges.  LO never liked to be spoon fed but he does self-feed so we've been giving him this type of stuff for months.  He generally eats what we eat but he def doesn't like things that are "mushy" b/c they are difficult to pick off his tray.

  • Just give him a variey of everything he'll eventually eat it. When we started BLW at 6 months Alexa wanted nothing to do with it, she pretty much ate no solids until 7.5 months. Before 1 they don't need it really, he'll adjust his formula/breastmilk intake if he needs too.
