First Post: "solids" question

Hi, all! 

DS *just* turned 9 months old... Seems to have happened so fast!  So rather than an "I'm new/GO ME" post, I'll welcome myself with an ACTUAL question...

So... DS LOVES LOVES LOVES his purees... I do yogurt, apples, zuchinni, peas, sweet potato, oatmeal, squash, peaches, even melons and I've even done chicken.  Good, right?

The problem is that any time I try to give him something with *texture*, he balks... I did blueberries cut into quarters, chicken shredded and chopped VERY fnely, etc.... He spits them out unless I puree them. 

He'll eat puffs and even shredded cheese, but that's the only "fingerfood" I've been able to give him.  Any suggestions for what I can give him to get him used to textures?  Should I even be pushing this since he only has 4 teeth?

My son was like that for awhile and has recently gotten a lot better. FWIW, he has no teeth. I'm not sure what changed to get him to like solid food better. I think part of it was time. Another part was finding a few things he really liked to get him started.

For DS that means anything with bread and cheese. Pizza crust was his first favorite, then grilled cheese. Now he'll try just about any veggies or fruits I put in front of him.

There were a few weeks where I was pulling my hair out trying to get him to eat, but eventually he just started doing it. Good luck!

DS was like that too - he'd make the most awful faces when you gave him anything with texture.  All of a sudden about 2 weeks ago he changed.  Not only did he start loving all table foods, but he also will feed himself anything.  (Before we always had to put it in his mouth).  I would just keep trying.

Like PP have said, I think time will help.  You could always try avacados.  DD  LOVES them and would eat a whole for every meal if we let her.   I think the texture is close to purrees. We've also made our own yogurt bites that she loves. Just some ideas.  GL.

How do you make those?  The Gerber ones are pretty gross...
