SERIOUSLY?!?

So DH and I went out to grab something to eat last night, I have a cold and really just wanted to get out of the house for an hour or so.  We had a good time, but when I tried to pay the bill my debit card was declined.  I called my bank and I only had $18 in my checking account!  I looked up my account on my phone and there were a bunch of charges that I never made!  UGH!!  I called the 800 number again to speak to the fraud department and sure enough someone has been using my card at a hotel in Liverpool.

I checked my account again this morning and my balance was -0.25!  Some creep took every dime!  The bank turned off my card, flagged it as fraud and the money will be replaced in due time so all is not lost but still!  Thankfully my mom works for the bank and when she got in this morning she was able to put some money in my account so my car payment would go through.

I know this happens all the time and at the end of the day it's not that big of a deal, everything will be replaced and no one was hurt but t drives me CRAZY that people do this stuff.  Lazy asshats that don't want to earn anything for themselves!!

Re: SERIOUSLY?!?

  • I can't believe the bank didn't put a fraud alert and freeze your card the first time you called! I'd be pissed that they knowingly let someone keep using your card overnight!!!

  • You poor thing!  That happened to my cousin last year--it's just crazy!

Glad you get everything back! Big Smile

  • This happened to my brother last month. The charges were made in HongKong.

Apparently someone can copy your card by just standing next to you with a scanning device - even the chip and pin cards (which is what my brother had).

Wow...I've had my debit card number stolen twice and each time it's caught on the first transaction.  I can't believe your bank let it go on this long!  Anything out of the "norm" gets a phone call from the bank before they clear the transaction.

Sounds like their fraud department fell asleep on the job.  Glad you'll be getting your money back though!

Same here. I had mine stolen last year. I found out because I was declined on my card for something. I called the credit department and I was already on the list to call and investigate.  However, being a big bank, I didn't get $ back for about a week. Yay being late on all my bills.

  • I've had this happen twice, but no matter how common it is it's a violation! I hate that people get away with it so much! I mean come on. Your messing with other people's lives. Sorry I'm getting pissed again. I hope your issue is resolved quickly.

That stinks. At least you are getting your money back. When I went to file for my taxes this year I kept getting rejected when I called the company I was dealing with they said oh you already filed under that ss#. So someone thought it was a good idea to use my ss# to file their taxes. I'm still waiting to hear from them, and I still haven't gotten a refund. I'm still hoping it was just a mistake of inputting the wrong number when they were filing.

    Sorry that happened.

My bank is usually real quick to freeze my account, like when I'm on vacation. They freeze for anything out of the ordinary.

  • Thanks ladies.  Just a crappy situation, but like I said it'll work out I just HATE people who lie or steal.

That happens to me too! All the time. If I go over 100 miles I usually get a phone call. Thankfully I've never had this happen to me. I would be pissed! It happened to my DH before we were married though.

  • Ugh that's awful. We recently had our card stolen and used to buy a few hundred dollars worth of perfume. I'm glad that's all they did, but I couldn't help but think if you're gonna use my card at least get something good with it! LOL Hope things are resolved quickly for you!

  • That's just awful. I'm glad you will be getting your money back soon. My bank froze my account after I made charges 100 miles away (my home town, which is 2 states away). I guess it's their practice to do this. I'm like, 100 miles? That's nothing! They put a note on mine and MH's accounts saying that we travel there quite frequently and to NOT freeze. I do think your bank should have frozen your account the first time you called. But, at least you're getting reimbursed.

  • Ugh, that's awful.  I'm sorry. :(

One time I was running through the McD drive thru to get dinner for the kids (yes, my kids eat fast food...) and my card was declined for around $5.  I almost died of embarassment and made the guy try again.  Still didn't work.  I was 100% positive I had MUCH more than $5 in there since my husband actually got paid that day from work.  Anyways, my bank had frozen my account because of suspicious charges.  They were mine.  Apparently I'm very shady.

Anyways...good luck getting this all resolved!!
