TTC After a Loss

My fifth miscarriage!

Morning Ladies- I had 2 miscarriages, then had my beautiful son miraculously. Since then, over past 9 months, I've had 3 more miscarriages. All early around 6/7 weeks- 1 D&C indicating Trisomy 22.

RE suggested IVF or keep trying on my own. I thought clomid might help me ovulate earlier- he said that probably wouldn't help much...i usually ovulate CD 18-20 or so. Just used OPK and am trying again naturally.

It's so damn scary...and not having any explanations sucks. Any similar experiences? If I just had 3 in a row- any luck this one might be ok? What is wrong w me? :(

  • I'm sorry for your losses.

Have you had a Repeat Loss Panel done? That might provide you with some more answers. I would definitely look in to having karyotyping done with the Trisomy history to see if it was a fluke or a an issue with your or YH's genetics.

  • I'm sorry for your losses. Unfortunately, not too many people here will be able to give you the reassurance that you need that this next one will be "OK." Most of us are still trying for our take home babies. I have suffered 3 losses in a row as well with no successful pregnancies, so all I can say I know how you feel. I don't know much about clomid, but I do know that my doctor only used it for patients that did not ovulate regularly....timing-wise, he didn't believe it helped. I hope you find the support you need here on the board!

  • I am so sorry! I have had 4- 1 before my son and 3 consecutive after my son.... so we are in similar situations.... it sucks and isnt fair.  Have you had all teh recurrent loss testing done???? if not that may bring some answers to why you keep having losses.... ( although 40-50% of those who go through testing get no answers- which sucks)..... testing is certainly a good start!

I found out that I had a uterine septum ( which I had surgery  to fix for almost 2 weeks ago)- the Dr THINKS that MAYBE that COULD have caused my losses- but he can't say for sure.....  but I have more testing to do....

I wish I could tell you what is wrong- and also wave a wand and have everyone on this board have a happy healthy pregnancy resulting ini a beautiful baby!!!

I'm sorry for your losses.  I would definitely request a Recurrent Loss Panel.  Like me, they may not find anything specifically wrong but at least you can rule things out.  It could be something that is easy to correct.

I believe I had this after my second loss before my son- they took 17 vials of blood- nothing wrong. As for karyotyping, I think I will try once more before going there...part that is frustrating with that is that you can't TREAT anything you find out, you know? The only saving grace I have is that it worked once before. Now, I'm almost 34...not sure if that is reason for high recurrent loss. Thank you for your great suggestions. DId you find answers with RLP??

Thanks...good to know your doc feels same way about Clomid. I guess psyshologically I wanted to try something, anything that may make the difference. Everytime I do get pgnt they put me on prog suppositories...I just ovulated so self prescribed baby aspirin...figured couldn't hurt. Geez. Can't help myself but querey myself for trying and having hope. It's a horrible mental place to be.

I am so sorry for your losses.  This shouldn't happen to anyone.  I am suprised your RE suggested IVF is you have not yet had RPL testing, genetic testing and karotyping done as these ladies have described.  I would definitely ask for that just to rule out anything that might be able to be addressed.

I'm sorry for your losses. The ladies ^^^^ have given excellent advice. RPL or karotyping would be my recommended next steps.

Since you do have one healthy child, chances are you can find success again.

I have also had 3 losses in a row and no success.  After an RPL and karotyping - I had a chromosomal issue that was causing the issue. I pursued IVF but that was also unsuccessful. I wouldn't dream of moving to IVF without having done the testing first.

Good luck and welcome to the board.

ETA: On Wednesday's - I post a check-in for those of us with multiple losses.  You're more then welcome to join that group tomorrow, if you'd like. I think it helps to connect with other ladies who have also been through multiple losses.

sniff sniff...thanks so much for this and the above welcome warming. I was on here whilst two m/c before my son and I remember how amazing these boards were. Such amazing support and great recommendations. I certainly will check-in. You know, i was strong somewhat, after the last two, but after the 3rd I yelled and cried after giving blood screaming to the sky "are you effing kidding me?!?! THREE??? WHYYYY?!" I lost it- realized I need some sort of support group, and I guess God lead me this way. I am so happy to be back in wonderful company. THinking of positive side of things- at least this experience leads me to interact with such strong, amazing women. Thank you all.

I'll be on the lookout for updates. 3 losses in a row, so sorry. How does any of this make sense? If it's genetic, why did it work once? I guess like my doc says, easier for him, if you don't go up to bat, you'll never hit a home run...blahhh.

I used OPK this cycle and am in 2ww...we'll see. Trying to breathe and not be angry.

I just wanted to share that if karyotyping did find something IVF with PGD might be an option.  The karyotyping is a simple blood test (just one vile) compared to the 17 viles you had.  My DH and I just had the karyotyping done (awaiting results) because we have had 3 consecutive losses after having 2 successful pregnancies previously.  My RE is also doing a more specific RPL panel involving other tests she said considering the tests I have had are normal and b/c I have had 2 successful pregnancies previously.  Perhaps your RE can recommend any other tests?

Like some of the other pp have mentioned, I would be leary trying IVF if they haven't learned what is causing the recurrent m/c.  Unless they will do a genetic screening prior to implementation.

Again, I'm so sorry for your losses but welcome to the board.

I'm really sorry for your losses.  I just wanted to chime in about the baby aspirin.  It sounds like you have already had the testing done for clotting disorders and nothing was found so you should not be taking this.  Your blood does need to clot.  My RE was adamant with me about this because my rpl came back normal and I had been taking the aspirin per my OB "just in case".  At least talk to your doctor first.  Good luck to you.
