Wipe off nipple cream or not?

I know the Lasinoh nipple cream says that you don't have to wipe it off before BFing, but I just can't see LO getting nipple cream in his/her mouth being okay. I'm sure it is if the insructions say so though.

Do you ladies wipe it off before feeding or not?

  • My ped told me to wipe my breast with a warm washcloth before and after each feeding.  No other washing off is necessary.

  • I never wiped it off. I didn't use much and it was usually well absorbed by the time I was feeding. There wasn't really anything to wipe off.

  • I didn't wipe it off. (Don't need it any more.) The first few times I used the soothies gel pads in the hospital, I was wiping my nipples off when I took them off, and it HURT! My nipples were so sore that wiping them with a wet wash cloth was painful. Then the lactation consultant told me I didn't need to wipe them off.

same here.  If they were really cracked, i just didn't wear a top (nothing touched my nipples). Or if DH was home i would put a hooder hider on and tied the back so nothing really rubs my nipples and they heal better and I'm covered with my tiger-striped tummy is hidden from my DH who thinks i should look like a model right after giving birth :

Just for the record, no one in real life does this. My baby ate a million times a day. I didn't have time to be farting around with a washcloth before or after each feeding.

Yeah, I never wipe anything off (lanolin, nystatin...) and DD doesn't seem to care of be affected by it!
