TTC After a Loss

A Friendly Reminder About BFP Announcements

This isn't meant to start any wars, but I think it's something that should remain fresh in all of our minds. Smile

BFP Announcements, however masked they may be, are not a right on this board; they're earned after at least 3 cycles of giving and receiving support here.

Alternately, if you have been here for several cycles (at least 3), and everybody knows you, please post your BFP, for crying out loud! I hate wondering where somebody is--and being forced to head to PGAL to hunt for an intro.

Anyway, taken directly from the TTCAL Blog:

1) If you are fortunate enough to find success on your first cycle or two on TTCAL, it's a pretty good bet that you should go directly to PGAL and post a BFP/Intro post there.

2) If you've been here actively giving support 3-6 cycles, and participating in the board as a member of the community, post that bad boy BFP up!

3) If you're a member of 6+, then you get to post your BFP without thought or worry about it.

4) BFP posts should include a 'bfp warning' in the title.

That's all. More details can be found on the blog.

It was a rough road, but Arlo Daniel was born April 1, 2013—and our second rainbow is due October 12, 2014.

Well said and good timing too.  I just feel a potential for an unwelcome BFP post in the air.

ITA with this, and it goes the other way too. We need to make sure the regulars (those who have been around for 3 cycles or more who offer support to the community) feel comfortable enough to post a tastefully-written BFP here. A part of my daily ritual has been to check PgAL every morning to look for any intro from ladies I've gotten to know and care for. I would love to celebrate those ladies right here on TTCAL before they move on to PgAL. I know not everyone will agree with this, but it's just my personal opinion.

Just to be crystal clear, the thread just below this post isn't the sole issue. There have been hurtful posts lately that may be running under some newer folks radar.

  • I appreciate this. I have read the blog and was clear on the "rules" (which are very well done, btw) but I still felt funny about posting a (hopeful) BFP in the future. At a minimum now, I will be here 6 months before that could even happen....not holding my breath... I don't have a lot of time to lurk on PGAL and I would love to wish more ladies a congrats when they do get a BPF...and also stop wondering if they are over there or are just MIA. Thanks!

Dumb question from a long-time bumpie who hasn't taken advantage of this board before.

We're hoping and praying that we'll be allowed to go through IVF again in August.  That will be next official cycle, but technically the next three months will be time spent prepping for that 'pleasure'.

*If* I'm lucky enough to get another pregnancy out of that, post or no?  I won't be offended if the answer is no.  I do plan to be here posting throughout the next few months, but I understand if for whatever reason my particular situation is uncomfy for the board.  :)

I just want to make sure that I don't cause anyone any extra pain.  Everyone here has enough of that already.

And much love to everyone who's here.  <3

I personally feel that it's more about what kind of a supporter you are than what your TTC status is. Whether you're TTC, TTA, undergoing IF treatment, or any other life situation, I think a BFP should be welcomed if you've been around a few cycles actively participating in a positive way. I get a good vibe from you, car seat. Good luck with the IVF and know that we will be here for you if you need us, even if it's just to offer hugs.

Bingo. If everybody's known you here for several months, and you're here basically every day, yes, post that BFP.

I think the three month requirement has less to do with how long you've actually been trying and more to do with how long you've been posting, as there are many women here who are TTA currently for various reasons. In other words, if you're a valued member of the community who offers support and people here "know" you, we're happy for you! If you're someone no one here recognizes, well, it's about as meaningful as some random lady on the street telling you she's pg, kwim?

  • So sorry!! I did read the blog, better late than never I guess. I didn't mean to be hurtful or offensive to anyone. I joined TB just in time to lurk my month board and have a MC. I do have older kids from my previous marriage, but this whole idea of an internet community is very new to me. When I experienced my first miscarriage 16 years ago, there was nothing like this. I have heard a lot of heart-wrenching stories here, and also gotten a lot of laughs. I moved here from miscarriage/loss pretty quickly because I enjoyed the wit and banter on this board as I lurked. I've been posting pretty consistently for about a week now, and hope that I am welcome to continue doing so. Again, sorry if I offended anyone with my questions.

Your post isn't solely what sparked this reminder, so don't worry about it. You haven't done anything wrong. You had the sense to ask about the rules. I just wanted to make sure everybody remembers them. :)

  • Thanks ladies! When in doubt, post your BFP announcement on PGAL. Most of us lurk there and will find it, but that way it's not in our faces.
