I have heard how everyone loves wool soakers, which I'm sure I will get into eventually since it seems that DD may be a heavy wetter. But, so far she does fine at night, so I'm not there yet. But, a friend just sent me a link to her friend who makes fleece soakers and skirties and they just look adorable. I guess I never really researched that aspect well, because I was unaware of using fleece as a cover.
So, do you/have you used fleece soakers? Do you like them? Prefer them during the day (I've heard better for day than night)? Have you ever tried making them yourself?? (It seems not too difficult, and I can think of some fleece patterns I would love to have on my DDs bottom)
I'm truly intrigued by this new discovery
Re: Talk to me about soakers
What I like about them: My mom made them very easily and cheaply. We have a bunch. They look cute. I can yank one onto DD while she's crawling away after I wrangle her into a fitted diaper. They're good as backup over a pocket diaper at night.
What I don't like about them: At times, moisture does seep through. It doesn't really happen if she's crawling around and playing, but it does happen when she's in one position for a long time against something non-porous - i.e. sitting in the high chair or a shopping cart at the store.
We've used them over a fitted diaper a couple times at night with decent success, but I have yet to try that with a really good fitted that I actually feel comfortable leaving on her all night. My Old School Cools are on their way right now, so I'll see how we do with those.
All in all - worth making some. Find some fleece on sale and see what you can whip up. I'd definitely advise making them double-layer.
