Good afternoon - I have been lurking over the past week or two and wanted to respond to some posts so figured I should do an intro! I had a missed miscarriage, discovered at a regular check up on 4/10 at around 8-9 weeks. It was our first pregnancy. We saw a healthy heartbeat two weeks prior so it was a total shock. My MFM doctor suspected that it was a molar pregnancy; however after having a D&C on 4/13 and getting the pathology reports back, that was not the case. Pathology reports showed that our baby girl had an extra chromosome - Trisomy 21.
As I am sure everyone here can relate to, it has been a very emotional month - one minute I am happy and laughing and the next I am crying. After receiving the pathology report last week, I am feeling like I am coming to grips with what happened and working on moving forward. Being high risk - type 1 diabetes since the age of 2 - I was worried that I had done something to cause the miscarriage, even though my diabetes is very well controlled and I was being followed closely by a wonderful MFM team. I think what has helped me the most the past few days, as strange as this sounds, is my grandmother's passing last week. My husband and I told her we were expecting a few days before we found out about our loss while she was in hospice care. She told us we were having a girl. I know that it is 50/50 chance whether it is a girl or not, but I (sort of) feel at peace with our loss, knowing that our little girl is up in heaven with my grandmother watching her.
I look forward to getting to know everyone. Just reading all of your
posts and seeing that that what I am going through and feeling is normal
has been so helpful already --- so thank you!

Welcome and I'm so sorry for your loss. (((hugs)))
I just read your comment on my post below about the juvenile diabetes. I wish I knew what kind of questions to even ask you. But I'm so ignorant to it all right now that I just don't have any! I talked to my SIL about an hour ago and Ella's blood sugar was back up to 430 so they're still fighting it and trying to tweak the insulin.
Its so scary how quickly it just came on.

i'm so sorry for the loss of your LO and your grandmother. Welcome to the board and I hope your stay is short and sweet
I know that at this point it is very overwhelming, so much to learn, lifestyle changes to make, etc. -- but I promise, it will get easier! I know that I feel very lucky how far long the medical industry has come with new meters to check your blood sugar, insulin pumps and much more since I've been diagnosed and I can only imagine how much advanced the technology will get in years to come. I would recommend checking out the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation chapter closest to you/your niece (www.jdrf.org). While each chapter offers different things, they all are a great resource center for support and information along with fun events. Hope your niece is doing well and thinking of your family!
