DD hates the Moby

DD is 2 months old and hates the Moby.  I'm really disappointed because I thought it would be so convenient to wear her while getting stuff done around the house.  I've only ever been successful with it twice but I think it was because she was so exhausted she just fell asleep.  Every other time I try to put her in there, she stretches out her legs and screams bloody murder.  Should I just keep practicing with her or find another carrier?  I have the Ergobaby sport but I haven't tried it yet because I don't have the infant insert to support her head.

Re: DD hates the Moby

  • My lo started doing that around two months so I started putting her legs out and immediately taking her for a walk and then doing whatever I needed to get done. If I tried to put her in and just walk around the house she'd start crying but if I took her for a walk and held her hands she would calm down and either look around or fall asleep. She loves the moby now I think because she knows it means we're going for a walk.

  • Is there a baby-wearing club in your area? Attending one could get you some free pointers on making sure you've got baby securing tied up. Alternatively, just watch a couple youtube refreshers to make sure you've got plenty of support for baby when wrapped.

Once you're confident in your wearing technique, going for a quick walk outdoors really helps my baby get relaxed & comfy in the moby. If she just feels restricted in the house, she protests, but when she realizes that being in the moby means we're on the move, then she's happy.

I think a lot of how much the baby enjoys it is a function of their personality. Some babies are really active and want to be free to wiggle around; others just want to hug mom all day long; and some are even happy to sit in a car seat for several hours a day. If you've got a little wiggle worm like mine, then that means she won't hang out with you while you clean the kitchen and the moby will have to be reserved for outdoor outings.

  • I tried on a Moby last week, and I told the lady helping me that I had heard some babies really hate the Moby. She said that usually, the mom put the Moby on wrong. She would ask the mom if she could try to wear their baby, and everytime she did, the baby was content.

So maybe make sure you are wearing it the correct way? Also, maybe it's not tight enough?

  • It took us a little while to get situated with it. Try a few of the different holds. DS liked the kangaroo hold (i think that is what it's called) better than anything else.

This. I would mess around with different positions/change up legs/make sure your using it right. All LO's are different so it might not be her thing but it's worth fooling around with before giving up. Also, YouTube has some great how-to videos.
