LO has been eating solids since just after 4 months. She loves to eat food! We recently started her on 3 meals per day. She is also BF. Twice over the weekend she had really hard poops and it seemed like it was difficult for her to push them out. Any advice as to how to help her loosen things up? We do give her a little water every time she has a meal. Anything else?
Re: Constipation?
DS has been eating solids since about 4 months also and we have found that when he gets a bit packed in, sweet potato or pears will normally clean him out fairly gently. Instead of mixing up what he is getting to eat, for one day he will only get pears or the sweet potatoes until we are satisfied with his poop (I feel a little silly typing that...) Is there anything that you have tried that made her really loose? My SIL uses anything with apples or berries for her DS. If you are still unsure, just give your Ped a buzz and they might be able to provide further tips!
GL!
Sorry to hear about your LO, hopefully he feels better soon! I usually thought breastfed babies dont really get constipated. Dr. Lindor suggested "to try prune juice (or prune baby food) first!"

Our ped. recommended 'p' fruits - pears, peaches, prunes & pear juice. He also said apples, bananas, cereal, oatmeal, etc. can cause constipation. So if your DD is eating those, you may want to cut them out.
Last option was to give DD milk of magnesia. I forget the dosage. We never gave it to her. The pear juice (and cutting out the other foods) helped us. FWIW we always mix juice 50/50 w/ water.
Good luck.
My LO is constipated for the first time.
I called the doctor and she told me to give her (2 or 3 oz.) of prune or apple juice 2X a day until I see her BM's back to normal. She told me not to dilute with water as the sugar in the juice is what helps break it down. I hate giving her all that juice but I am going to do whatever will work. She also said more apples and pears in her food as well. She also told me that even if you have been giving you LO soilds for months. that they can get constipated for no reason. My LO has been eating solids for months and this is the first time she has been constipated.
I hope your LO feels better soon!
Dilute 3/4 water with 1/4 organic prune juice-works every time and if you are feeding rice cereals, stop for a while, they can be VERY constipating or switch to oats and also bananas, apple sauce and potatoes can be as well. stick to greens and berries for a bit
