So, DD (who eats about 10-16 oz a day) ate 22 oz yesterday!!! YAY!!! She slept a bunch on Sat, so I am assuming this may be a growth spurt. She ate 3 5oz bottles in a row from 6 am to 2 pm! So, really happy about that (she has done this a handful of times before, maybe 4-5 (eaten 20 oz or so)). So, then starting at about 9 pm, she started screaming bloody murder. She did this for 5 hours. Nothing we did could help. We gave her 2 doses of gas drops in that time, I walked with her, bounced her, laid her on her belly, bicycled kicked... nothing worked. Her body was stiff as a board. She did arch her back a few times, and curled in to the fetal position a few times, but it was mainly stiff. At 2:30 this morning, my husband said he would take her and drive around, so that I could get some sleep. We undressed her from her sleep sack, and VOILA, she calmed down. She started cooing, and playing and seemed generally happy. She did this until about 4 am, then conked out, waking up around 6:30. I have a call in to my Ped this morning (and was going to call last night, but it was about the time she started acting happy). Anyone have any thoughts about this? I did put in a call to our children's hospital's doctors, for a second opinion, but they need a release of info and all of her records, so was going to give my Ped another chance, then proceed with this. It sucks having to do that, because then they know (my Ped) that I want a secondary opinion. I like them, and pretty much trust them, but I can't figure out why DD can't drink more than 15ish oz without having issues. I have cut dairy and soy and am thinking of going on the elimination diet (I have packed my food today to start), but it sounds really hard. Should I try putting her on formula? I hear that is even harsher on the stomach for some. UGH. NEED HELP (and sleep).
Thanks
Re: Need advice
What was your ped's first opinion that you want a second opinion on? Does she always calm down once she is undressed? Did the ped recommend you going on an elimination diet?
I would say screw it and get the second opinion. Even if it means you have to ask your pedi to send over her records, I'm sure they get those requests al the time.
I wouldn't put her on formula unless you are told to, if she's already having possible stomach issues, you don't want to change things up and possibly make it worse.

Thanks for the response!
Good questions. The reason I was looking for a second opinion, is that my DD has been eating 10-15 oz for the past 4 months and I am trying to figure out if this is cause for alarm. My Ped is one of the best in my area (according to the Ped GI specialist that I referred myself to) but just said, as long as DD is staying on her growth curve well (which, she is) then that is all we have to worry about (and wet and dirty dipes, of course). I can't seem to shake why she won't eat, and thought a second opinion may help (such as, does she need further testing, will they confirm what my Ped said, etc).
I haven't noticed a difference when she is undressed or dressed for eating or mood.
And, I actually am putting myself on the elim diet, to see if anything changes. Ped didn't say to (no blood in stool, eczema, etc, just mucusy poops and gas).
Thanks for responding. I will take any thoughts to heart, I promise!
Mucous poops are what helped tip us off to DD's milk and soy intolerances. If you think she has an intolerance, do not give her gas drops until you find out whether or not the flavouring uses soy binders. Usually if you call the manufacturer they will tell you, but if they won't, have your pharmacist find out for you. Did the GI doc test her stool for blood? When I brought DD to the GI, he tested her stool for microscopic blood.
I definitely would not change your LO to formula if you suspect milk & soy protein intolerance. Most formulas are cows milk based and those that are not are generally soy based. If you want to switch her, I would work with your pediatrician so that you can find a suitable choice. I ended up having to switch DD to formula because after finally seeing progress when i cut out all dairy and soy, she started having blood and mucous diapers again. The pediatrician was a lot of help and we found a medical formula that works for DD (it is amino acid based and is hypoallergenic). Did you tell the GI and pedi about the mucous? Because you definitely should.
Good luck!
