Soothie Pacifier

Anyone else using Soothie pacifier?  DS has been using Soothie since he was born, but the 0-3 month soothie.  I have tried several times to introduce the 3+ soothie but he spits it out immediately.  I think it is too firm for him.  He is 9 months now and has 6 teeth so I am worried about the fact that it is not as firm.  Anyone in a similar situation or have any advice on how to get him used to the new one?

Re: Soothie Pacifier

  • We don't use a soothie, but just replaced some of Cam's pacifiers that were getting cracked and worn it.  I tried to give him the new ones during the day (when he started to get tired, but not when he was ready to go down) so he could break them in.  Within a day or two he was good to go.  I also made sure they were run through the dishwasher, hoping they'd seem more familiar, and figured it would soften them up a bit.

  • DD loves them! I couldn't imagine bedtime without it. No advice or experience, sorry.

  • DS used a Wubbanub from about 2 months old until a week ago.  A few months ago I bought some 3m+ soothies to see if he would take them.  He didn't want anything to do with it because it was more firm.

This past week I started giving him the Wubbanub only at bedtime and naptime.  (It gets so dirty with him carrying it around all day and taking it to daycare.  And I don't want him to be a toddler with a stuffed animal hanging from his mouth! lol).  So now he uses a combination of the 0-3 soothies, 3m+ soothies and 3m+ gumdrop pacifiers (they have the same nipple as the soothies).  He surprisingly didn't have any problems adjusting to them at all this time around.

My only suggestion is to give him a little more time to get used to them.  And if he doesn't I don't think it is a big deal.  The 3m+ is no different in shape so I don't think it makes much difference in terms of oral development.  Maybe I'm wrong but that was just my perception!

  • We use them and love them. With #1 we only used the 0-3 and just replaced them every couple of months.

I've read that Soothies shouldn't be offered after 6 months, but DD loves her Wubbanub.  She only takes it sometimes at naps and bedtime, and she doesn't keep it in her mouth the whole time, so I'm not going to take it away yet.
