Neither one is my style, but Talon is definitely the better option. I wish I could like Aslan, but it just feels too "I named my kid after the God character from Narnia". So sorry!

Eek, I am not a fan of either one...I will say Talon is worse. At least Aslan is a name. I really hate Talon- it's overly aggressive and it's a claw on a bird of prey. Not a name at all imo.
Eta I much prefer Quinn, which you mentioned in the other thread.

Aslan represents Jesus in the Narnia series, not God, and people name their sons Jesus all the time. I've met three. I don't get what the big deal is.

Talon is somewhat of a GP name for me. I could never actually use it but IMO it is a California surfer, stylish, educated and artistic guy who is friends with everyone and is very close to his family. I see nothing wrong with that!
Aslan does not roll off the tongue very easily for me, and I just do not think it is an attractive name. It also sounds a bit like Ashlyn when I say it, so it sounds a bit feminine.
I don't like either. Aslan looks like Asian at first glance. All I can think of with Talon is a screeching bird of prey. I guess, if I had to pick, it would be Talon...
I love Aslan. I thought that was made clear in my previous post. He happened to really like it when I mentioned it, and loved the series as a kid as well.
Both are actual names. Aslan is Turkish and is a boys name. It is feminine because people made it feminine just like Addison, Quinn, Ashley, Leslie, etc.

So why is Aslan "horrible", but names like freaking Edmund (ew) and August (yuck) are great?
None of this makes any sense to me. Those two names are more hideous and mean to your kid than Aslan IMO.
I don't think Aslan is horrible, but it's not great. For one, it sounds feminine to my ears. It has nothing to do with girls' being named it- I've never actually heard anyone being named Aslan, other than the lion (and I don't care that he represents Jesus, for the record). I just happen to prefer stronger sounding names for males. Secondly, it has AS as the first two letters. I think other names (Astrid, Aster, Aspen) also can be difficult, regardless of how I feel about those names personally, because I think the teasing potential for ass is too great. Those are my only two hang-ups, well, and I think it sounds strange with your son's name. I don't think sibling names need to match, but I think they sound best when complimentary. But if you don't care, oh well. No big deal.
Talon is awful, imo. That's fine you don't like the name August, which I happen to love. I'd rather my child be named after a month than a giant bird claw. I'm not saying that to be snarky, either. But truthfully, you seem to be asking but getting upset over responses- I noticed that in your other post as well. Name your kid whatever you want, and if you love it along with your SO, then wonderful! But don't expect everybody else to love it, for all the reasons mentioned previously. Gl to you!

To the point about me getting upset, yeah yesterday and today have not been good names. The reason that I AM so upset, is because I said that I love this name, and I feel like everyone is all "that's the worst name ever, why would you do that to your kid?!" which seems hurtful IMO. While I understand that it's a unique name, and not everyone is going to like it, there are more effective ways of saying it. A simple "it's NMS, and here's why" would have probably been much more efficient.
This reply honestly was the only one that I actually took the time to understand WHY the name was bad. While some may not like the name, it has meaning to us and we may still use. But at least now I understand WHY people may dislike it. So, while I understand that this board is here to critique names, and that I should be ready for people to dislike any name I post, I think there is a better way to do it than to just tell me that my style sucks and you hate everything about it.
FWIW, I really dislike Wyatt's name. I had huge name regret with him, and I don't think that he looks like his name. I wanted to name him Hayes, but XH hated it. I finally just gave in. I do not want to do that again this time.

I understand. And while I'm a poster who wants 100% brutal honesty when it comes to names, it still does sting if someone disses a name I love. But I think the way in which you worded your OP "Which is worse?" opened up for people to simply state which they disliked, and not say why. Also, many posters find NMS to be a generic answer, or incomplete. I do have names that I find NMS, like Emily, not because there's anything wrong with it, but it just isn't for me. Then I have names I genuinely dislike, like Kinley- but there's a difference, kwim?
I think next time, make sure you ask why someone likes/dislikes a name. I also know then to take that person's opinion into consideration or not. If someone hates a name I love because it reminds them of an ex-boyfriend, well, that doesn't carry much weight with me. If they hate it because it's the name of an evil dictator that I didn't know of, then that's quite important, see?
I'm sorry you don't love your son's name. You could see about changing it, I guess- how old is he? If he's young enough, I'd consider it. But if he's old enough to know his own name, try to not dwell on it and move on. And yes, pick a name you love this time around, but go into it knowing that other might not. If you're cool with that, then go for it!

That's like choosing what is worse - freezing to death or burning alive? LOL, sorry but they are both bad.
I would much rather freeze to death.
OP - I think Aslan is worse, but I'm also an agnostic and think the Narnia series is a snorefest. I also agree with a previous poster about it looking like Asian at first glance.
I think Aslan is worse. It looks like "Asian" when typed, as many PPs mentioned. I am also not 100% sure how to pronounce it, at least in terms of where the stress falls. And I am not sure if the first syllable is pronounced like "ass" (no pun intended) or like the word "as" (i.e., az). I am guessing it's the latter, right? And many people mentioned this yesterday, but this is not a name that was co-opted for girls. Aslan and Aislinn have different roots/etymology, and Aislinn has been a girls' name forever.

I like Talan better spelled like that.
