Unexpected Mothers Day Remembrance

Today we had my parents and DH's parents over for mothers day. My ILs usually aren't my favorite people. They're not bad by any means, just usually a little bit inconsiderate. Today we were doling out gifts for our moms, and my ILs handed me a gift, and I looked at them confused, and said, why am I getting a gift? And they told me to just open the card. It said something about how much they loved me and how they have not forgotten about our loss and wanted to recognize me. Cue the tears. Huge, heaving sobs. I was so overcome and grateful and touched that they thought to do this for me, and of course with everything that is going on, it meant even more. I never in a million years expected to be recognized today, least of all by them. It meant so much...sometimes people can really surprise you. Oh, and I got a really nice perfume set, too

Yay for ILs being thoughtful, especially today, and catching you off guard with their kindness. (And perfume, bonus!) Breaking down into giant sobs is completely understandable. I know you've been going through a lot lately, so I'm so glad that you've got the support of family (even if those ILs are not always considerate, at least they can pull it together when it counts). Days like today are a complete emotional clusterfluck, and it's hard to know what to feel. Happy mother's day to you, dear! ((hugs))
