Flying with stroller

I'm planning on taking the stroller (the travel system stroller, not just an airplane or umbrella stroller) to the gate with me as I'm traveling with DS solo.  Do you recommend a stroller cover if I'm checking it at the gate as opposed to checking it as luggage, or is it not worth the hassle of carrying around the cover and then bagging it upon boarding?

TIA!

Re: Flying with stroller

  • We've taken ours on a plane twice and the first time it got a nick in the foam on the handle but it wasn't a big deal to me.  Things can happen even when gate checking so if that sort of thing would bother you, I'd get a cover.  Either way, a cover won't guard it against major breakage which I've heard can happen too.

It wasn't worth the hassle to me. It's hectic enough when you're getting on or off the plane with a line of people behind you to get the stroller open, baby strapped in & get on your way. The less things to complicate that, the better (for me at least). Good luck!
  • Thanks for the feedback!  I'll be taking the stroller cover back...glad I asked before I opened the package.  :)

  • What kind of stroller do you have? I ask because most of the big stroller companies (peg perego, uppababy, bugaboo, etc) have a travel bag you can buy and if you register it with them they will replace your stroller for free if anything happens to it during air travel.  I have an uppababy vista and the travel bag is $100 and I fully plan on buying one and using it when we fly cross country to see my family in July.  Its a bit expensive but cheaper than buying a new stroller if something happens to it.

  • I flew with our stroller from BWI to LAX over a week ago and still can't get out the fuel smell.  I plan to use a bag when we go to Europe in 2 weeks to try to avoid the fumes.
