Cloth Diapering

Best detergent?

We have best bottoms CDs and have yet to use them. I think they'll fit DD now but I'm so overwhelmed and intimidated. I know I just need to start. They need to be prepped and I've been reading about detergents and looking at the charts. There's so much to choose from, I just don't know where to begin.

  • My favorite is Tiny Bubbles. You can buy a case from Costco.com for a cheap per load cost. We use it on our clothes too.

  • I'd take a look at this chart https://pinstripesandpolkadots.com/detergentchoices.htm. Make sure you're using a CD safe detergent and you'll see what works for your diapers, machine, routine and water.

I tried three or four different detergents before settling on one - and each detergent had some people that loved it and some people that hated it.

I know that's not that helpful. I know some people who love Ecosprout, Dropps, Tide Original or Rockin Green.

  • We love the BumGenius diaper detergent. We have never had a stink issue or repelling or anything. Its made for cloth diapers.
  • I'm going to prep my dipes tomorrow so I'm of no help to you, but I wanted to say that I sympathize!  It's so overwhelming.  I was going to go with Tide since I've heard a lot about it but I know a lot of people who have had rashes from it... plus the detergent chart says it has enzymes and those are bad when you CD?  I'm looking at Planet or TIny Bubbles now I think.... anyway, GL!!!
  • Check out this link for cloth diaper friendly detergents. You will find a million different answers to your question here. It all depends on your water/machine what detergent will work the best for you. I've used a few trying to find the best one for my hard water.

  • Someone posted a really good article about finding the best detergent for your water and needs. I can't find it but maybe someone else can link it. Everyone has their preferences based on what work best for them. I'd try a CD specific detergent and go from there. We've used Dropps, BG detergent, TinyBubbles and RNG. Of those the BG detergent was the best for us but I just switched to Tide original because we've been having so many issues. I hope this is the cure finally!

  • We're not very far into it, but we have Crunchy Clean & are very happy with it. Plus, it smells sooooo good (when it goes in, the fragrance is gone when the diaps are clean).

I use Planet which I like. We have soft water (well, it was really hard and we bought a water softener) Of course, I bought one jug of Planet and then Kroger stopped carrying it.

  • I love Tiny Bubbles.  I had MASSIVE issues with RnG, and unsatisfactory results with All f&c, biokleen (though I still use it occasionally because of the GFSE), and BG.

I've used RnG, Charlie's Soap, All F&C, and Dropps.  We had major stink problems with All F&C, some stink with Charlie's, minimal stink with RnG, and absolutely no stink so far with Dropps.  I'm definitely a fan of the Dropps!

  • We use country save (we have soft water) and have never had an issue with it. My dipes always smell fresh and clean and work just fine!
