We've explored adoption a few times in the past - I was telling my family that I planned to adopt when I was 6 years old-- I want to be someone who *chooses* adoption rather than feel like it is a last resort.
I have some questions, specifically about adoption in NYC. I think we are planning to use an agency, though that may just be because I don't know very much about not using one. Can someone point me to resources on non-agency adoptions?
We are most likely seeking
domestic infant adoption as neither of us wants to adopt an older child
and most international programs prohibit gays from adopting.
Also, right now, the forerunner for our agency is Adoption Star in Buffalo- We know a few families who have adopted through them. But I welcome other experiences there?
Additionally, I'm curious if people have had experience with Spence-Chapin?
Does anyone have any other agencies suggestions that can place children with gay couples in NYC? For instance, Gladney won't place with queer or single mom families.
Re: XPosted from Adoption.
I know a NY gay (male) couple that adopted through Friends in Adoption and were very happy with their experience - everyone's experience can vary, but they were matched with a birthmom weeks after turning in their homestudy which is crazy fast.

Thanks.
That is nutsy fast! Adoption Star also has a speedy matching from what I understand...I know like 3 couples who turned in homestudy's and within 4 months had babies at home.
