Diarrhea? Help! TMI

Colin has had diarrhea since Thursday...he's had about 6-7 poopy diapers with mucosy (sp?) poop everytime. Not completely watery but way more loose than normal. Sorry I know this is gross!

He's holding everything down and his appetite hasn't changed at all! If it's still like this tomorrow I'm calling the pedi...

Anyone else experience this? Was it a virus? Teething? I've been adding a bit more water to each bottle to make sure he doesn't get dehydrated...he won't take Pedialyte. He drinks 32 oz of formula a day. I just can't stop worrying that he's dehydrated! Does this seem like enough to where he wouldn't be dehydrated?

Thanks!

Re: Diarrhea? Help! TMI

  • Oh what a great idea! I will try the mesh feeder...thank you:)

He does have a rash! I've been using A&D...I will try desitin also. So you think this could be teething? He has his bottom two in already. I'm wondering if it's his top two. I'll feel around tomorrow.

    Thank you for the advice!

DD was like this all last week.  It was due to teething.  I learned that she'd only drink orange Pedialyte, and only warm.  She isn't used to cold drinks since she mostly just has bottles.

I was in constant contact with the pedi office to make sure she didn't get dehydrated.  They actually said to cut out formula for a couple of days or alternate bottles of formula and Pedialyte because milk-based formula can be irritating to an already irritated intestinal tract.  Not much help if you can't get him to drink Pedialyte though!  I'd just keep offering the 32 ounces of milk and try to sneak in some Pedialyte popsicles or syringes of Pedialyte when you can.

  • I feel like DS had this about 3 times from about 4 months to 7 months and he was always fine. 32oz is a lot and if he is still drinking like a champ then i'm sure he's fine! Have you tried a powdered probiotic in his bottle? I have Uncle Uno's from whole foods and its awesome and supposedly even helps if/when they contract Rotavirus

We add probiotics to DD's bottles too!  Yogurt also helps, although other dairy products irritate.  We mixed yogurt into her oatmeal every morning.
