Hello!
I just made the switch from breastfeeding to formula feeding and my DD is only taking 3.5 ounces every three hours. This seems like too little consumption. she's 5 months, and about 15 lbs.
Any thoughts are appreciated. My son took 6 ounces by this time but was also 18 or so pounds by 6 months so maybe she is right on track.
curious what your LO's are consuming at 5 months.
TIA!
Re: how many oz's of formula is your 5 month old eating?
Thanks for your response! If you don't mind me asking, how much do your girls weigh? Sounds like my DD isn't too far off of your girls so that makes me feel better
I started my DD on cereal at 4 months and she wanted nothing to do with it so I'm gonna start her on it again and see if she'll take it this time!
E weighs 10 lbs 10 oz at her 4 month visit (about 3 weeks ago) and H weighed 11 lbs 14 oz. Breast feeding/pumping never worked for me so they have been on formula since birth. It took us just until about 2 months ago to get them to 4 oz every 3 hrs and in the last 2 weeks we just put them to 4.5 oz. I know some people always offer a certain amount (6 oz for ex) and let their lo eat what they want from that. For us that didn't work. They would eat more then their belly could handle because they suck it down so fast that they don't have time to realize they are full.
DS weighs 15 lbs and takes about 6 oz every 3 hours...Usually about 30 oz per day.
We have done formula since 3 months but my LO takes about 3.5-5 oz about every 3 hours. He's 17 pounds and we are doing solids twice a day. In the evenings he eats a lot more though. One solid, 5 oz and then 6 oz right before bed. He'll then sleep from 7pm-4 am before needing anything else. He will then eat 6 oz again at 4 and then sleep until 8:30 am. He then goes back to eating the normal amount.
As long as baby is gaining weight normally there isn't anything wrong with the amount LO eats. Each baby, like an adult, needs a different amount of calories.
This exactly.
