TTC after 35

200mg of Clomid.......really?

I'm not sure that I have seen where anyone on a dose higher than 150 mg. I know it's going to be a tough cycle on me and everyone else at home and work.  Is it not out of the "norm" not that there is much normal about of this.

  • Wow!  I don't think that I've ever seen anyone on that high of a dose either!  Have you been able to find anything on the net about that high of a dose?

  • Did your Dr. explain why they're upping your dose?

  • The entire process was a fiasco. My Rx wasn't called in so I was able to call my friend who is a nurse at my docs office and thankfully she called it in. But no, I have not had a chance to ask anyone about dosage change.

  • Are you seeing an RE or OB/GYN?  I am totally not the expert here, but I was told clomid wasn't the best choice for women 40 and over as it can thin your lining.  My RE uses Femara.  Might be worth asking- GL!

I am seeing an OB/GYN, there isn't an RE within 4 hours drive where I live :(. But my lining has always been between 8 & 10. I do think I'm going to ask him to put me on something different from Clomid next cycle, only to try and change things up. I ovulate on my own and have had 2-4 mature follies with each cycle.....old eggs suck!

  • Per my hospital's drug resource (LexiComp):

"Maximum dose: 100 mg once daily for 5 days for 6 cycles....Doses larger than 150 mg have been reported, however pregnancy rates are low. "

Since the tablets come in 50 mg doses, can you just take 150 mg instead of the 200 mg?

  • If you can afford/get covered for injectables instead of clomid, I would def recommend that. I'm not sure if this helps, but my RE said she wouldn't put me over 100mg due to my weight (I'm 120). I would think the side effects would be really strong with a high dosage...hope you get answers!
