Carriers: Beco vs. Boba?

I'm going to get a new carrier (not using the bjorn anymore), trying to decide between the Beco and the Boba - any thoughts on the pros/cons?

I was looking at a comparision chart and it looks like the Boba is the best choice, the only thing I can't do is a forward facing carry. Do you find the kiddos really like facing out? My LO is 4 months old now, haven't tried forward facing yet.

  • FF is really not that great for babies. Not only does it put your center of gravity off it also doesn't allow baby to turn their head away from things so they can get over stimulated very quickly. Most people here will tell you not to FF.

I've been researching them both because I want to get another option other than my Ergo. For me I am leaning more towards the Boba because it seems like you can use it longer than the Beco.

This is the chart that I was going off of. https://www.theportablebaby.com/carrierfeatures.html

  • I have a boba-it just fit DH and I better. I wear both my 14 lb 4 month old and my 30 lb,, 37+ inch tall toddler in the Boba comfortably. I would suggest trying both on to see which is a better fit.

  • I used a Beco Butterfly 2 and a first generation Boba with older DD. I much preferred the Boba. The Beco was hotter and didn't fit me as well. I liked the tall shell of the Boba and used it with DD past age 2.5. The easy back carry feature thing of the Beco is however a nice feature.

We have a Boba 2G that I and DH like a lot.  We can carry DD very comfortable (she's about 19 pounds at 11.5 months) and I imagine we'll be able to do so through toddlerhood.  I like that it has foot straps for toddlers as well!

Like PPs mentioned, forward-facing isn't very comfortable for babies.  If your DD prefers it when she's older, you can strap her on your back in the Boba so she can look around more.  DD likes to snuggle with DH when he wears her facing him and doesn't mind it at all.

  • FF isn't good for the wearer or the baby anyway so I wouldn't use that as a deciding factor.
I have a Boba and will never use anything else, LOVE it!
