C-sections

How far apart do they have to be??

I'm considering a VBAC, but figured you ladies may know:

My daughter is 10 months old, and will be 18 months old in January, obviously.  January is my EDD.  Is 18 months to early to try a VBAC?  Will I probably need a scheduled c-sec?  If so when do they shedule those (the normal-40 weeks)?

  • Some OBs will let you attempt a VBAC with 18 months between births. Mine would've. If you schedule a RCS it is usually scheduled sometime in the 39th week, unless there is a medical reason to do it sooner.

  • Depends on the OB, but mine was fine with VBAC 12.5 months apart. Some require no minimum at all, some want 18 months, some want 24 months. If VBAC is important to you, I would definitely interview other OBs if your OB says no to you.

  • Think it just depends on the ob.  Mine DDs will be 19 months apart and my ob wasn't/isn't worried at all.

  • Depends on your doc - my OB (and hospital of choice) will not allow VBACs at all, and the OB recommends waiting until one child is at least 6m old to get pg again after a c/s.  I'd ask at your next appointment.

My OB schedules repeat c/s for 39w, and puts them on the books at 28w.

  • The OB/GYN practice I go to doesn't usually allow VBACs unless there are at least 2 years between pregnancies. I will likely end up with a scheduled repeat C/S.
