What's so bad about the new nest boards?

Besides the font and color change what really changed?  I guess I am confused about what the uproar is all about.  SAIF is creating a new board somewhere other than proboards because some people don't like FB.  I just can't keep up and have pretty much given up trying.  I'm just confused is there something terrible I am missing?

Re: What's so bad about the new nest boards?

  • Hmm, that's odd because Pro Boards isn't like FB, you can keep your annonimity like here if you wish.

As for the boards, posts disappear, counts are messed up, replies are deleted, the stark white background is taxing on the eyes, the banners/thread title are repeated before every reply, less posts per page which means more scrolling and clicking, no more back to the top feature, no more bump mode (supposedly), very slow (the reason it's ok right now is because about 2000 people left the boards and went to the GBCN/GBCB Pro Boards.

  • Super, super slow.

Only 15 posts per page shot.  So, posts can go for pages and pages.

Quoting is more difficult since you can't edit out parts you don't want.

    The emoticons suck.

You have to refresh the page to see new posts instead of clicking on Infertility Veterans.

And I think the worst part is people have been very, very vocal of not liking the changes and they really don't care.

  • Ok thanks.

I guess I am more tolerant of this type of stuff because I do this for a living, but it doesn't bother me.  But part of my job is transitioning our users from one product to another because change is so hard for people.  These all seem like normal growing pains and actually based on common feedback and trends I think many of their changes make sense.  The white background with muted side bars is fairly standard, I actually think it looks more modern and clean.  People complain all the time about having to scroll so many companies try to shorten their pages to please people and increase page views.  It's actually a pretty standard that people shouldn't have to scroll and forcing them to scroll creates user fatigue so I would guess that's why they have decreased the number of posts per page.

The rest of the issues seem like pretty standard roll out glitches, I know no one really likes to hear that and to be honest no company wants these kind of glitches, but it's kind of par for the course with any kind of big software upgrade.  And I am just guessing, but there really isn't much they can do except continue going forward and do the best they can.  It could be that some of the software they are using for the site is at end of life or no longer supported and in those cases there is no going back no matter how much people don't like it.  So I don't know, but being in this field and taking complaints like this all the time there really isn't much to be done once you start an upgrade of this nature and rolling back is often not an option.  It's too bad they have so many kinks to work out and didn't test this better to resolve those first, but I guess like I said I don't really think these issues warrant this kind of hubub, but that's just me.

You and I must do the same type of work for a living :).. this.. EXACTLY. I work with software upgrades / new implementations DAILY... 24/7...Change is so difficult for users... No piece of software is perfect. Give the bump 6 months..they'll work out some of the kinks...

  • I'm w u YD...I'm not that bothered by it, it's just change.  Once we figure it out, how hard can it be.  We are smart women!

I also can't keep up w tons of boards.  So i hope people stay here!

  • On top of all the issues listed already, there was also the concern of privacy.  There was quoting of people from message boards in news articles.  And also posting pics on their Pinterest Boards.  The ladies from What's Cooking took their whole group private when the Nest was posting their pics on Pinterest.  Yes, probably all ok according to TOA.  But many feel like they are losing their anonymity.

So not only are there speed issues (which is actually not so bad right now since I believe their has been a 40% decrease in usage since the exodus), there are other things that have annoyed users.  Another major complaint is the broken search function that hasn't worked in years.  Yet they continue to not fix it though it has been requested hundreds of time and instead do a roll out that displeases a majority of users.

And these issue may not be a problem on IFV, but they are with users on other boards.  I am on Proboards because I enjoy the ladies of MM and their sharp wit, but I will still be here if this is where you ladies are because I will always be a part of IFV.  I just want to explain some of the reasoning behind the frustration with the Bump/Nest.
