TTC After a Loss

SO Bummed...Re:Genetics

The genetics came back on our baby and it was normal. A perfectly normal child...gone. I am so frustrated and bummed. Not that I was hoping something would be wrong...but at least then it would make a bit more sense. I go for my next step consult on Monday and am just waiting for all my blood work to come back normal and it be "bad luck". I just feel so deflated.

I'm sorry honey.  I don't think there is any "good" result from genetic testing.  Either you lost a perfectly healthy baby, or your baby had a genetic defect that you now have to worry will happen again.

There is just no way to win with pregnancy loss.

Ugh. I know. I just think in the present moment it would have given me some closure to feel like there was a reason, but in the long term it would just create another thing to worry about.

There really is no good answer, is there?  I'm waiting on genetic testing results and keep going back and forth in my head as to which option would be "better" (though we all know that there is no good in any of this).

So what is the next step?  Are they running tests on you?  Does this information play into that?

It's aweful how we almost wish for something to be wrong for an explanation, but at the same time wishing and praying nothing would ever be wrong again..

I hope that all the 'bad luck' runs out for you and for everyone else here on the board!

I know how you feel.  I have lost three and two I ended up with the D&C...both came back a genetically healthy baby boy and a baby girl.  The girl they are never 100% sure of (they might have your dna) but with the boy they knew for sure.

My regular doctor did the work-up after the second miscarriage with clotting disorders and whatnot.  He got nothing.  I had the third and was sent to an RE.  He had said my doctor had done a wonderful job but there was one more clotting disorder he wanted to check for....sure enough I ended up with MTFR compound heterozygous.  Not only does this cause blood clots but it also prevents your body from naturally absorbing follic acid...which is obviously incredbily important.

I was having a LOT of joint pains and was actually about to head to my doctor's office about it.  I started taking the Metanx (which helps with the follice acid) and all of a sudden I physcially started feeling so much better.  If I couldn't function with the level of follic acid in my system how was my body supposed to produce a healthy baby?  I really feel that the diagnosis is going to change my quality of life and give me the opportunity to have a healthy pregnancy.

I guess I have gotten long winded, but what I wanted to tell you is 1) have your doctor check for MTHFR if he/she didn't and 2) don't lose hope even if it is "unexplained" there are multiple things that they can do to help people have a "stonger" pregnancy in the future (progesterone, help with ovulation, etc.)

  • I'm so sorry ... It's one of the reasons I fear getting our baby's genetics tested. I'm afraid I would take it harder knowing everything was perfect.

These things happen ... And they will figure out how to stop it from happening, and another take-home baby will be in your arms. Thinking of you.

We lost our first (EDD 07/23/12) after finding out at 12 weeks there was no longer a heartbeat. Our rainbow was born 05/22/13 and was worth all we went through.
