Evinlee Joy

I just wanted some feedback on the name Evinlee... it's kind of a play on Heavenly.  The Lee is my mother's middle name.  Joy is my MIL's middle name and my Grandmother in-law's name.  Nicknames could be Evie (like E.V.) or Evin.  My husband made it up and I think it's so sweet he put so much thought into it.  Initials will be EJH.

My first thought was, like you said, a play on Heavenly.  And I'm going to be honest, Heavenly Joy= stripper name.  I would go back to the drawing board.  What about Jocelyn Leigh/Lee?

Evie is great. It works for Eve, Evelyn, Evangeline, etc. If it's the meaning you're going for, there are other names that are associated with heaven (Celia is one).

I like that you want to use Joy and Lee to honor family, but I don't think Evinlee Joy works.  It sounds like Heavenly Joy spoken with a cockney accent, which is just weird.  There are lots of names that end in -lee, why not use one of them instead of making up a name?

This.  I REALLY don't like Evinlee.  It's too "made-up".

It's really bad. It doesn't sound like a clever wordplay at all ? it sounds forced and unsophisticated.

Joy is a great name with a strong family connection for you, so I'd keep it. But paired with misspelled "heavenly," it is a real groaner.

You might like Everly ? some of the same sounds, one of the newer names, has "ever" in it. Everly Joy is still sort of cheesy, but not as *headdesk* as Evinlee Joy.

Sorry, but I have to agree with pp's that this sounds forced and made up. I like using family names if they work/make sense, but this is too much IMO. There are so many great names that already (truly) mean "heavenly" (I like the suggestion of Celia. Celeste is another one). Search websites like Nameberry or behindthename.com to find a name that has meaning to you! Joy and Lee could be great middle names, or perhaps Joy could be a fn - sweet and simple.

It's a terrible name.  Terrible.

Please keep looking.  You don't have to honor every family member in one rolled up name.  Or, if you really insist on doing this, there are plenty of "real" names that have "lee" in them, why don't you use one of those (i.e. Hailee Joy)??

It's funny that this "name" is a play on heavenly for you. The first thing I thought when I saw it was the word evilly.

There are some made-up names that I can get behind on occasion?depending on the sound/way the name looks?but this is not one of them. Sorry.

I agree with everyone else.  It's bad, really really bad.  It's great that your husband is involved in naming your DC but there's a reason why the majority of us don't let our DH's make up names for our kids.  Evinlee Joy does sound stripper like, plus it makes me think of the boy name Evan which shouldn't be used on a girl imo.

Wow - calm down. I think you got really great feedback here and no one was tactless or unkind. What responses offended you?

You asked for opinions and got them - along with some great suggestions on how to incorporate the names you like and create a nice, legitimate name for your future daughter. It might be time to think hard about this name if this is the reaction you are going to have. 

I am sorry if this offends or upsets you, but Evinlee is not a good name. It's not a real name. It is very sweet that your husband is putting in so much effort but made up names rarely turn out well and smoosh names are usually worse. You need to think about your daughter in all the stages of life and how a name like this will translate in pre-school, highschool,  a professional career, old age, etc. 

You need to say it out loud, a lot. As a trial. next time you go to Starbucks, or another store, introduce yourself with this name and gauge the responses. Or try my test:

1. Hi, this is Becky Smith, Evinlee's mother....
2. Do you, Michael Robert Jones take Evinlee Joy Smith to be your wife?
3. Ladies and Gentlemen, the 55th President of the Unite States, Evinlee Joy Smith.  

Or worse - Next up on the main stage, the Champagne Room presents our newest Angel of Lust, Evinlee Joy!

I know that's harsh, but these are things you have to consider when naming a child.

Everly would be way better than Evinlee.  

I am not a fan of Heaven/Heavenly/Nevaeh type names.  I do think they sound trashy and teen mom.

 And when you ask for thoughts or opinions on this board you will get them here. Take it with a grain of salt, and remember that they are strangers on the Internet.

In my opinion (which you asked for), Evinlee is horrible. There are thousands of better names out there that are actual names.

If you don't want opinions that differ from your own, don't ask for them.

I think the thought beyond it is great, but the name doesn't sound good. Think about it she has to use this name for the rest of her life.

What about Jolie. It sounds like a mash-up of Joy and Lee. It's French for "pretty."

LOL. You posted a name for critique and you got just that. If you think that receiving an asked-for opinion is equatable to bullying, you may want to consider other thesis topics. It appears you are misinformed about your subject.
