I am 20 weeks along with twin girls. My concern is that any amount of exercise seems to make me very tired and give me some discomfort. Today, I walked over to our church for a luncheon--the church is less than 1 mile from my house and the temp was only in the mid-70s. While walking home, I felt my abdomen tighten (and stay tight) and had ligament pain. I took probably 30 minutes after getting home and putting my feet up to feel normal again. This is my fourth pregnancy (I have three boys), and I have never experienced anything like this until the very end. Is this a sign to slow down (even more) or am I just being a wimp? I am planning to ask OB about it at next appt. (5/18).
Re: Am I begin a wimp?
my OB (who has dealt with insane amounts of multiple births) is under the opinion that being pg with twins+ is NOT the time to stay/get in shape... it's the time to let your body do all the hard work making babies- and told me to take it easy... sit down every chance I had - don't over do it with anything... He told me to stop working out once I felt any discomfort at all - and then wait until i have them to work out again.
if you are contracting, then your body is saying it's too much for you.
When you start getting close to about 28w your body can start to think you are done- b/c your body starts getting close to what a regular 40w singleton would be like (size wise)... so be careful. (this is likely also why so many of us hit a wall around 27ish weeks) You are in the very critical zone... NOT the time to take chances. Having other babies is not the same as having 2 in there at one time.... so take it easy.
This. LISTEN to your body and don't compare yourself to anyone else. Your body is growing two babies at once! It's okay to slow down.
This exactly. I was working and running around doing everything I was doing before being pregnant and it came to bite me in the butt around 26 weeks when I was put on complete bed rest because I was having bleeding and a lot of tightening which turned out to be BH contractions, which if you do not take it easy with that I was told they could turn into real contractions and put me into labor ( holy run on sentence lol) Just listen to your body and if you start to feel discomfort and/or tightening stop what you are doing and lay with your feet elevated and on your left side. My OB always said when I was laying down to make sure I was on my left side to help with the blood flow.
Thanks, y'all! I guess that I have been underestimating the differences between this pregnancy and my previous pregnancies. I went into this with a been-there, done-that mentality, but I guess it is a whole different ballgame with twins. I am very afraid of PTL and early delivery. I am also hoping to avoid bed rest. I am going to make some changes in activity and diet--I am drinking lots of water, but often I don't "feel" hungry when I know I should probably eat.
BTW, I don't know why I typed "begin" when I meant "being"--multitasking has never been my strength.
