Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Cruising to walking

I know every baby is different, but if your baby cruised first and then started walking, how long between the two?

DD started cruising almost 2w ago.  Has no interest at all in crawling.  I'm wondering if she will skip crawling and just walk...and when I could possibly expect that to happen.

TIA!

DS has been walking for I think a month, maybe 5 weeks? He was cruising on everything, and before he started walking he was definitely trying to figure out how to get to something without having to crawl, but honestly, I wasn't expecting him to walk so soon. He wasn't even standing well on his own, then all of a sudden he just started!

  • I'm not sure how long, but DD has been cruising for at least 3 months now, if not longer but she still doesn't walk independently.

I also know a child who was cruising on his 1st birthday(not sure how long he had been cruising before that) and he didn't walk until almost 4 months later...

I also know a child who started cruising at about 9 months, never crawled and then started walking independently about a month and a half later...

Maybe not crawling makes them try to walk sooner?

pretty much the same DS has been cruising since 7 months and he can stand without holding onto anything but can't got from sitting to standing without using something, he is trying though. He will take a few steps if me and my husband sit across from each other and stand him up and call to him but the most is like 3 steps

  • LO started cruising when he was 8 months and started walking when he turned 9 months old. Today he turned 10 months and this morning he stood up on his own without holding on to anything.

  • I have been wondering how long we have to go before DD is motoring around as well.

In the span of 2 weeks she has learned how to army crawl, crawl on hands-and-knees, get into a bear walk position, pull herself up to standing, and cruise.  I know this isn't earth-shattering news for anyone else, but MAN! I did not expect these things to progress so quickly.

I'm also amused because she was doing none of these things at her 9-month well child check-up and so her NP had suggested keeping a close eye on her gross motor because she might need a children's services referral (insert side-eye).

  • Crusing - 7 months

Crawling - 8 months (seemed like he would skip it, but one day he started crawling across the room)

    Walking- 9 months

There wasn't much time between crawling and walking here. He has always preferred walking and before he could do it on his own he'd walk around holding our hands. Your LO may surprise you and start crawling out of nowhere, but no biggie if it doesn't happen! I didn't think it would with DS, he showed absolutely no signs of wanting to (hated tummy time, didn't rock on his hands and knees, and then bam it was like he had been doing it forever).

  • DD has been cruising for at least 2 months. I don't think she'll be walking for a while, she doesn't have much balance and has no interest in letting go of whatever she's standing against.
