Adoption

Met with our birthmom!

We met with our birthmom and dad this week.  It will be an open adoption and we are so excited.  Everything went great and we have a lot in common with them.  We couldn't ask for a better match.  Our SW let me know today that they were thought everything went really well and liked us too.   We showed up at the restuarant 15 minutes early and it was possibly the most nerve wracking 15 minutes of my life.  All morning I had myself convinced we were just going to lunch and it was no big deal.  But by the time we got there I was nervous and couldn't deny what was happening any longer!  Their social worker was there and once we all sat down and started talking it went great!  They didn't seem like they were judging or scrutinizing us at all, just wanting to get to know us since we will be part of each others lives for a long time.  He seemed really mature and sure of the decision, she is younger and quiet so I didn't get know her as well but I like her too and hopefully they go through with their adoption plan.  She is due in 8 weeks with a baby boy!

We are telling only close friends and close family right now.  And I told my boss.  I don't want to have to explain to everyone if it doesn't work out but we're so excited its hard to keep quiet.  We are thinking about telling extended family in about 4 weeks.  That gives them a month to get used to the idea.  When did/will you tell people about being matched?

  • Congrats, glad it went well!  :-)

We matched two weeks before DS birth, had to travel across country, and knew we'd be staying a bit longer than average due to our situation so we told family and friends immediately.

  • We had one aunt that had asked us point blank and we had to tell her but we asked her to help keep it a surprise. Then we didn't tell anyone, not even MIL, until we showed up at a family function complete with baby in carrier. It was so much fun surprising everyone. We have a video of us walking in with him. It was so hard to keep the secret but we also didn't want to have to tell everyone if BM backed out. He was five days old when they all got to meet him and find out. I still smile just thinking about how amazing it was.

(My parents did know because I needed their help with our two older bio children.)

  • I am SO glad your time with them went so well! YAY!
