Mayo?

Is it safe to have mayo from places like subway as well as a brand like hellmanns?

It's something about it being made with raw eggs.  I have eaten Miracle Whip, but I'd ask your OB about real mayo.

  • You can read the ingredient list when you go to buy it in the grocery store. Typically the mayo on the shelf does not contain raw egg - because you would not be able to store the mayo unrefrigerated and for such a long time.

The whole "don't eat mayo" thing is if you make it yourself at home. If you're at a restaurant and they're using a house made mayo (or aioli, fancy name for mayo) it most likely contains raw eggs and you should stay away! If it doesn't say on the menu, it won't hurt to ask. And if you REALLY want to get picky - ask about the salad dressings. Creamy dressings such as Caesar, Ranch, and Thousand Island may contain mayo and/or raw eggs.

As for subway, I'm pretty sure they use hellmans or an off brand you would buy at the store.
