Rolling front to back

I did tummy time with DS2 today (7 weeks) and he decided to roll over, belly to back! Not just use the momentum of his big head, but actually kick his body over. I can't believe he's already hitting milestones!

Anyone else's little one rolling over? Or any other achievement you want to boast about? :)

Re: Rolling front to back

  • Mine rolled front to back about 2 weeks ago, although she hasn't done it again since, so it may have been an accident.  She was on her tummy time mat and started fussing but I had my hands full so I couldn't roll her over right away, she got mad and started yelling and then kicked herself over.

My son rolled belly to back at 2 weeks old. He hated tummy time so much, he did that every single time I put him on his tummy.  He still accomplished the mission- building his muscles.  He didn't roll from his back to his belly until 4 months or so, and it took him about a week to figure out that if he kept going he could move places.  For a long time we called him roly-poly boy.

DD will roll off of my chest when she wants to eat.  She'll be laying there peacefully and then all of a sudden roll and keep opening her mouth.  It's hilarious.  But no, she won't roll when you put her on the floor.  But she is smiling, which is beyond precious.

I LOVE watching infants meet milestones.  There are SOOOO many in the first year or so, and it's so much fun!

  • Man, my LO just does not come anywhere near doing that. She also hates tummy time. She does love to sit upright in my lap and on the sofa, so I'm wondering if that's good enough. She's getting stronger at sitting upright ,so I don't know.

  • DD started rolling over front to back at 5.5 weeks. She was only doing it on the couch, but then she did it at the doctors, and at 9 weeks on her play mat, so I guess it's the real deal. Sometimes she acts like she doesn't know how but I've seen it a million times so I know she can. She's getting way too close to rolling back to front, too. I'm afraid I'm going to have a very early mobile baby!

  • Yes he rolls. Probably started 2 weeks ago.  I use to put him in his boppy to nap but he can roll out of it now. Less housework on my end more movement on his end!

My DS is the same. He HATES tummy time, even on the excersise ball or boppy, so I'm not holding my breath for seeing him rolling over soon. Although he also likes sitting upright and his neck is quite strong for his age... not stressing too much though, our dd was the same and she's a strong, active and healthy little toddler! ;)

  • Nope, no rolling yet!

  • So far he only rolls side to back or tummy to side (I often put him on his side to sleep - helps with reflux) but he somehow manages to turn himself sideways in the PNP. When I get him up in the morning he's usually a full 90 degrees different from where he started at night.
  • DS almost rolled himself over during tummy time yesterday.  He's smiling a ton lately, like full body smiles where he scrunches up his whole body when he sees me or DH. It's the best. :)
