Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Sitting up at bedtime

I know this sounds weird bc I kind of think it is but lately when we put DS down for bed he goes from lying on his back to flipping onto his belly then sitting up. The weird thing is is that he will repeat it several times and he looks like he is going to fall asleep or is half asleep. We have to do what we can to settle him back down otherwise he keeps sitting up. It just started recently.Has anyone heard of this behavior?

Re: Sitting up at bedtime

  • DD does this all the time.  In fact, she's sitting up in her crib as we speak.  One time she fell asleep sitting up with her feet in front of her and her belly/head in between her feet.  She slept like that for about 15 minutes before she moved.  I'd just leave him alone and he will figure it out.

  • Yep, DD does it if she wakes up too early. It's funny to watch - she inevitably slumps over because she is just too tired to stay up right. She falls back asleep eventually

  • haha! good to know my son is not alone. Do you know physiologically speaking "why" they do this? Once I heard someone mention they do weird things like this when they are about to begin a new milestone like crawling or walking. Idk

  • DS does this all the time and we just leave him. Sometimes I'll go "shhhhhhh" and he will just clonk over like a wet mop its so funny

  • my DD just discovered how to do this and she does it every time I put her in the crib.  Unfortunately it prevented her from napping much today.  I think they're fascinated with their new skills.  I hope it wears off so she sleeps better.

DD sits up when she doesn't want to sleep :P

That is interesting about them doing weird things when they are about to begin a milestone, I had never heard that before.

DD has been doing it for over a month now.  I think it's just "practicing" her sitting.

  • DD always does this. We bed share so I just lay her down again and she falls back asleep.
