TTC After a Loss

Anyone know - is your LH surge supposed to be consistent from cycle to cycle?

This is only my 4th cycle using OPKs regularly. The last three cycles, I would get two days of positive OPKs, ovulating either the day of the second positive or the day after - but always two days of positives, regardless. Well, yesterday I got a positive, but today it's negative. Is that normal to have a short surge when they're usually two days, or are they supposed to be consistent cycle to cycle? Couldn't find any answers via Dr. Google and figured I can't have been the first person to wonder this...

You always hear about how you can get a positive OPK but then not ovulate, and the anecdotes I've been able to find of that always mention a short surge. REALLY hoping I'm ovulating today as expected! Anyone else have any experience/knowledge with a short or inconsistent surge?

  • I find my OPK's vary a little. I stop as soon as I get a positive, but sometimes I get my positive first thing in the morning and sometimes not until later in the day. I usually get it on day 11, but occasionally that changes too.

You probably are O'ing today. What does your CM look like?

My OPK results vary as well. I've had a + anywhere from 0-3 days in a row. It all depends on timing since the OPK is just a "snapshot" of your surge.

Your timing looks pretty good though, well done!

  • I don't know for sure but I'm thinking it doesn't mean anything and is probably normal. I used to get a warning, I'd see a fade in pattern starting about 3 days before the actual positive. This cycle it wasn't there one minute and then BAM! in my face a few hours later!

So I'm going with the theory that the surge doesn't have to be consistent. But if you're worried, I'd keep taking them for another week or so to make sure. Good luck! I hope you are ovulating!

  • I wouldn't worry about it too much. It probably has to do with the timing of when you tested and even how concentrated your urine was when you tested (how long did you hold it, how much water did you drink, etc.) I know if there are certain stressors in your body (drinking, lack of sleep, stress, diet, etc.), you may have a longer LH surge to attempt to O, so it could also be that this month your body didn't have to work as hard.

Innnnnteresting... This month I started doing Circle + Bloom and have found myself more relaxed. Perhaps that's the culprit and a short surge is a good thing? I never thought of it from that perspective before - naturally my mind automatically goes to OMGWHATSWRONGWITHME? Wink

That's so cool!  Of course, I'm only an accountant and have no clue about this medical stuff other than what I read on the internet, so don't 100% take my word for it. ;)
