Can someone explain annovulation to me, please? I understand that it means you don't ovulate during a cycle but how is that determined? Do you not get a period? Is it irregular? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I couldn't find exactly what I ws looking for in articles online.
Re: Annovulation - explain?
You can still get a period if you don't ovulate, but usually your cycles will be irregular. Some women who are anovulatory don't ever get a period, or at least not very many of them. You can also have ovulatory cycles interspersed with anovulatory cycles.
The only way to determine whether or not you are ovulating is by charting your basal body temperatures. Paying attention to your cycle length can give you an idea if something is wrong, but charting will confirm if you're ovulating.

I recently started charting (after a year of trying and not charting) but what should I look for as a clue in the cycle length? I do get positive OPK every month.
Long cycles can mean either you're not ovulating or ovulating late. Positive OPK's don't confirm ovulation, they just show that your body is gearing up to O. If you're charting your temperatures, you should be able to see whether or not you're O'ing.

I know this, its why I started charting. I was just curious if there were other clues as to ovulation/annovulation.
Thanks!!
Can you give us an idea of your past cycle lengths? If you're talking 31 days, 27 days, 33 day, etc. that's not THAT irregular. If you're talking 48 day, 57 days, 79 days ....those might be more of an indicator, but still not necessarily so. Do you have a link to your current chart?
I just started temping again, but I am pretty sure that I ovulate when I do actually get positive OPKs because my CM correlates, I get other O symptoms, and the only time I get a period is 13-14 days after the O day predicted using opk/cm.
I'm temping now though, in order to have record of my cycles in case we decide to seek help from an RE in the coming months.
I generally have long cycles (over 38 days). I've always been confused in terms of if I have a 60 day cycle, did I actually have 1 annovulatory cycle in between or is it just considered 1 long cycle, KWIM?

It's considered one cycle. A new cycle only starts with a period.

Thanks, so what does it take to be considered annovulatory? Is it not Oing on your own for an entire year? Or if you only O a few times per year at most? I pretty much think of myself as having irregular or spontaneous ovulation. It only happens an average of 6 times/year, though.

I'm not sure what it would take to actually get a diagnosis of being anovulatory. If you O 6 times a year on average, I don't think you would be considered anovulatory. It seems like it would have to happen less than that.
