Hamper question

I sometimes get caught up on the silliest details - but I can't decide on a hamper. Baby's closet is a small walk-in, so there will feasibly be enough room to just put a laundry basket on the floor in there (which I'm considering).

Wondering what you ladies are doing? Are you getting a cutes-y hamper that matches the bedding, a neutral wicker-type hamper, or is a laundry basket in the closet your style?

Re: Hamper question

  • I honestly had not thought about it until you just posted this lol.  I have no idea!  One more thing to add to my list of things to contemplate....
  • I'd love to get a dark wicker one with the linen bag in it, but honestly, we'll probably use one of the blue plastic ones we already have. His bedroom is literally about 10 steps from the laundry room so it really doesn't matter all that much.

  • We're doing Lion King for the theme, so we figured why not - and we are getting the Lion King hamper as well. I personally think it's silly, but it's our first so we want to do all of the "silly" things. :)

  • We had a wicker hamper in DS's nursery.  By the time DD came along, it was just easier to put everyone's dirty clothes in the hamper in their bathroom.

  • You'll be washing a lot of baby clothes, so I vote for practicality over how it looks.  We have a small laundry basket from Target that sits behind the glider in DD's room.  It's perfect because she has a small room and the basket fits just one load of her clothes so it's easy for me to carry up/downstairs.  For DD#2 I'll probably choose something similar.

  • DS has this wicker hamper from PBK.

DD has a black wicker hamper with demask lining from Target I think.  It matches her bedding.

Both hampers are way too pretty to put in the closet so I leave them out in the corner of their rooms.  And we use them a TON.

  • I put this Rattan Elephant Hamper on my registry, but I'm not sure if it will be big enough to fit all of baby's clothes. I do laundry once a week and its 22" high.

  • We have a beautiful wicker one in our room which I love, but I'm not sure it's as practical for a baby's room. We'll probably get one that I saw at Target that is a washable mesh-type one. It also is open on top, which I like, because eventually he'll be an independent toddler who wants to do it himself and he can just basketball-style shoot it in.

  • For DS, we have one that matches his nursery bedding. Now that he is switching to his "big boy" room, however, we will need to get him a new one. I will probably just go with a laundry bag in this closet though.

For DD's nursery, I am going to get a white wicker one I think.

  • We use a dark wicker hamper w/ linen bag.  I guess I'll need to get something for DD's big girl room!

  • we have a matching one in DD room but it's a pain - its cute but doesn't stay together very well - if this baby is DD too she'll get a diff hamper bc I'm always putting this one back together :( when DD moves into big girl room we'll probably just get a tall wicker one :)

  • I'm just getting a neutral wicker type hamper. I'm not sure if it will go in the closet or not. Hopefully I can find a cotton liner that matches some of the bedding (navy and white).

    That is adorable!

  • I had a wicker one on my registry for DD1, but didn't end up getting it as a shower gift. Instead of buying it ourselves, we use a canvas bin (like this https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-3-Pack-Medium-Bins-Blue/14691673?findingMethod=rr but larger). It's a nice compromise between a laundry basket in the closet and a hamper. It's cute enough to be out, but holds more and the big opening makes it easier to chuck things into it from her changing table across the room. Now that she's crawling, she loves to pick at the wicker on my hamper and I've had to stop her from eating little pieces she breaks off. Probably a good thing she doesn't have a wicker one in her room! Although I'm sure if you get a quality wicker one that's not an issue. Ours breaks fairly easily.

i wanted that elephant hamper in white, but now i'm back peddling on spending $50 for a hamper. That is a lot to me for something you just through dirty clothes in haha

Yeah I thought this too! I figured that I will put it on my registry and if no one buys it for me then I will just get a regular hamper! It does double as a room decoration though so it is almost worth it.

I'm looking at getting the same one. I "pinned" a nursery on Pinterest that uses this hamper and I love it. I'm not sure how practical it will be, but it's cute!

  • DS has the hamper that matches his bedding set & valences, etc.

For DD, we probably won't bother with a new hamper; we can just toss her stuff in his hamper.

  • We have one that matched the bedding for DS1. But for the next I really liked that PBK one. However, bigger is better for me...I only do his laundry when it's full or I've run out of something.
  • We are doing a Winnie the Pooh theme. We found a cute pop up mesh Pooh hamper, so we put that on our registry. It's only $10, and small, so it will fit perfectly into LO's small nursery. I plan to wash LO's laundry in a different detergent than ours, so we plan to keep his/her laundry seperate from ours.
