Babies: 9 - 12 Months

12 month shots

I am doing some research on the 12 month shots, MMR mostly, and am struggling with this. From most of the things I have read the side effects are mild and not common, but then from other people I hear how dangerous they are. So far my LO has gotten all her recommended shots on time.

I'm not really looking for opinions of non-vaxers, since I already have gotten her vaccinated, but I am looking for experience with the 12 months shots or MMR shots from others whose LOs have gotten them, or who have decided not to get them and why. And if they did get them, did they have any side effects? Thanks. I know that this subject is very controversial, and I'm not looking for a controversy. Just wanting to know other people's experiences.

Or if there are any helpful sources you used in your decision.

Re: 12 month shots

  • My LO just got his shots a couple of days ago. The MMR, HEP A, and Varliia (sp?) one ..which I believe is chickenpox vac. The dr said the side effects were fever up to 101 for 2 days and a rash that could show up even a month from now. I always give my LO Tylenol before the visit so its already working when he gets the shots. So far he has not had any side effects, not even the fever. He slept a little longer than normal yesterday but that is about it. Been playful and loving :)

  • Also, the MMR is one of the shots needed to enroll in school according to my shot records.

  • We got DD's 12 month shots last month. Other than the standard low-grade fever and some crankiness, I didn't notice any side effects. She hasn't yet had a bad reaction to any of her vaccines though.

She slept a little rough that night, I attributed it to the fever, but was completely fine at her birthday party the next day.

  • Not vaccinating is not an option.  Period.  My DD got her 12 month shots and she basically just slept a lot more over the weekend.  That's it.

  • Yeah, she only had a fever and was not feeling good after her 6 month shots, but not after any others. She's set to get her 12 month ones already, but I just am always worried if we have made the right choices because I have some people in my family who are anti-vax and I feel like I'm made to look like the one doing the wrong thing sometimes. So thanks for the few answers I got. I never seem to get many answers for my questions, so I don't know why I figured people would actually give me answers on this either... but thanks to those who did answer.

  • I completely understand about wondering about vacines and such. I am that way  with the flu shot and some others. However, with babies, I think it is safer to get them vaccinated. But like I mentioned earlier, some of their 1 year old shots are required for school entries ( 3 or 4 doses of MMR required) so those you need to at least do. My LO is still doing alright from his shots :)

  • Good to know that your LO is still doing good. :) Thanks. I appreciate it. I am sure she will be just fine from her 12 month ones, just like she was with her others, but I worry about her so much. lol I too think its best with babies to give the vaccines that are recommended because they are so susceptible to diseases that can be very harmful and if we have the technology to prevent that, then by all means I will do so.
