Still starving all the time ....

Hey ladies, I BF with two FF supplement bottles a day with LO and I find that I am always starving. I still need to eat in the middle of the night. I heard that your hunger is supposed to taper off but mine definitely has not. What is your appetite like if you are BFing?

  • Still hungry all the time here. I think I stopped having to snack in the middle of the night with DS around 3-4 months but during the day I was still hungry all the time for the whole first year it seemed!

    I'm still hungry all the time and know I need to start watching what I eat so I can loose these lbs. But seriously I am always starving at night no matter how big a dinner I eat.

    Married: 5/09 ~ TTC Since: 10/10 ~ PCOS ~ Progesterone from 10/10 - 2/11 ~ HSG on 3/18 - Clear ~ Started Metformin 1000mg & Clomid 50mg 2/11 ~ Metformin upped to 1500mg 4/6 ~ 6/7 Now going to SG and put on Clomid, Ovidrel, Gonal F, Prometrium, Estrace ~ IUI #1 7/2 = BFP!!!!!! March 6th our little man was born. 

    6/17/13 - Ovidrel, Follistim, Prometrium ~ IUI #1 7/2 = BFP! March 17th our St. Pattys day baby arrived

    10/29/17 - Started process for IVF, got pregnant & miscarried a 2nd time since summer. 2/22 started stims - Menopur, Gonal F, Cetrotide - retrieval 3/6 - , PIO, estrace 3xday - FET 4/18 = Beta 1: 616; Beta 2: 1342 = BFP 

  • I EBF and i cut down on my food intake. I do find it refreshing that i actually have an appitite. I do have snacks around. I try to have a 10am snack and 3 pm snack. Once i am home, i dont have time to snack! LOL

    If you're BFing, you need an extra 500 calories each day.  That's why you're starving.  :)   And fwiw, I am hungrier while BFing than pregnant...  but while pregnant, you only need an extra 300 cals/day, so that makes sense. 

    BM is 20 calories/ounce, and your babies, on average, need 25 ozs/day.  25 x 20 = 500.  If you eat enough "good" calories (not junk food), you can lose weight while BFing.

  • I'm hungrier too and am trying to eat healthfully to keep losing the baby weight. It's nice to not be working out at all (had a c section so can't yet) and be losing weight! I keep a Zone or Luna bar on my nightstand and typically eat it after a night feeding. I'm also trying to keep my water intake up. I think I'm going to have a snack (string cheese) now! :)

  • I EP and I am starving most of the time, but I am eating healthy and eating those extra calories and don't know why I am still hungry.  At least I know I'm not alone.

  • I try and keep a healthy snack bar by the bed that I eat in the middle of the night, I have the opposite problem of most new moms, I have lost weight to fast, so I have to eat A LOT or I keep losing and have trouble making enough milk.  LO has just started sleeping through the 3AM feeding and staying asleep till 5 or 6 and I am usually light headed and nauseous by breakfast time because I didn't eat in the middle of the night. So eat that midnight snack!

  • Ya I am aware that I need the additional calories because of breast feeding but it seems like no matter what or how much I eat I am never satisfied. It's annoying, especially when I want to lose twenty three pounds before the end of the year.

  • I'm the opposite, I have to force myself to eat and drink during the day because I am just not hungry. I EBF my LO.
  • Yep I am starving all the time! I always eat during night time feedings.
