Adoption

Meetings have been difficult.

So, we have met with three agencies so far and have one more tomorrow. I kind of thought we would like most of them based off of their websites, but so far we have only really liked one. It's a little disheartening when you walk out of a place disappointed. Hopefully we are able to feel very confident in whatever decision we end up making.

Re: Meetings have been difficult.

  • I'm sorry to hear they weren't all fabulous. But on the flip side, it will make your decision much easier.

  • I hope that you are able to make a decision about which agency is best for you!  We only visited with one in person, but we had a really great feeling afterward.  Hoping for the same for you!

  • The upside is they are doing the work for you :)
Weeding out agencies can be hard work... it's great that one feels like a good fit.

  • We went to one meeting and left so very disappointed. I expected to leave with a warm, fuzzy, this-is-the-right-agency-for-us feeling based on recommendations from people we know and we left feeling as hopeless and depressed as we felt after both miscarriages and several failed fertility treatments.

The big issue we had was at the info meeting they presented only the birth parents' perspective through a video, and the video implied that open adoptions mean that birth parents become a part of your family, babysit for you and you bring them on vacation with you. It sounded like they promoted co-parenting. There was no video from adoptive parents' or adoptees' perspectives.

I emailed the agency to give feedback on the meeting and let them know it felt very one sided. I received a call from them the next day. Maybe you should provide them with your honest feedback, you probably weren't the only ones who felt that way.

    Baby #1 due 2/10/14!
  • Thanks everyone!
