Donor Siblings

For those of you who used an anonymous donor, have you attempted to contact any donor siblings? I'm wondering what your hopes are for those relationships. We are currently in contact with 3 other moms who have 4 children in total. We all talk via a private FB page. We exchange Christmas cards, discuss any medical issues the children might have, exchange photos and are even considering secret santa gifts for Christmas. I'm wondering if this is typical or we're just strangely lucky to have found an awesome group of women.

Re: Donor Siblings

  • We may be "the odd man out," but at this point we have zero interest in meeting donor siblings.  When our kids turn 18 we will probably give them the donor info & if they want to search for siblings we would support them in that.

  • We have no plans in being part of out halfsies life. However, I did meet a woman from my town that used our donor and is currently pregnant. Also, a woman on here used our donor (she posted vials pics). But I did not reach out to her. I feel like it's nice to know about the other kids without knowing the other kids.

We are also in agreement that we have no desire to reach out to other families that used the same donor. I know there are A LOT of them and there is a Yahoo message board just for our donor, but we haven't joined and won't unless it is important to the kids at some point.

  • We have no interest in meeting families that used the same donor.  We used CCB and have not registered with the sibling registry.  If N wants to explore this when he is older, I will help him, but until then, we are happy not being involved.

  • We have no plans at this time to contact any donor sibling families.  E will have the opportunity to do so when she is 18 or if as a teen feels like she needs that connection. I don't think it is bad or good just not something our family needs at this time.  We did have an time last summer when we had to have the "talk" with another family because our children had an uncanny similar look to them.  They pretty much look like twins...it is freaky. They are not related but it was a strange feeling.  I know that there are a ton of siblings which makes me feel strange but it is what it is.

  • I don't have any idea if there are any siblings, and don't really care or have any desire to find out. when we used him the first time around he didn't have any reported pregnancies. we have a friend who keeps a list of donor numbers that she got together when they were trying for their first and then revised when they had to switch donors for their second (not who used which donor, but which donors people in our circle have used). if we were switching I'd check with her to see if our selection was on the list and seriously reconsider if he was, but that's the extent of my caring.
