Nintendo DS game recs? 3DS recs?

DH and I, along with money from great-gma, will be getting DS a Nintendo 3DS for his 6th bday. Any recommendations for games? DS loves superheros, cars, and angry birds. I would like to see some games that he can play on his own (minimal reading, since he is in kindie).

What games do your kids like?

    Are you set on a 3DS?  Or would you consider a Kindle Fire or an iPod Touch?  The games for the 3DS are $20+ and are cartridges that can be lost.  The Kindle or iPod cost about $50 more but they have many more games and learning apps that are free or $0.99 to download.  The iPod even has a camera, and you can easily disable any web functions you don't want him to have access to (YouTube...)

    We have iPods and 3DS' in our house and all 3 kids use the iPods 90% of the time.  They only time they play on the 3DS is when their friends are over with theirs.

    We have thought about an iPod Touch or Kindle. DS really just wants to be like his friends that have the 3DS. He also wants to share games with his cousins and friends. And since he is just 6, I am fine with the 3DS since it's more "kid-associated". IDK.
