I think I've created a monster...

My lo never wants to be put down! I try the swing, play mat, bumbo, highchair.... and she just cant' figure out how to 'entertain' herself. I feel like I'm to blame because I've always jumped at her every squeak.  She fusses, and whines whenever I put her somewhere...Do you experience this? And do you let them 'fuss it out' for a bit before scooping them up?!

Re: I think I've created a monster...

  • Sometimes DS fusses/cries when i put him in the swing.  When this happens, I stand right in front of it and sing and dance for a minute or which calms him down a bit.  Then I'll guve him a stuffed animal to play with and walk away.  This often works for me.

    When he cries as I put him on the activity mat, I've started to notice that it's usually because he's tired and wants to nap.  Then I rock him to sleep  (which I know may be creating another problem but I'm not ready to tackle that just yet) and lay him in his crib ir put him in his swing,

  • I'm realizing that DD doesn't like to be held by other people. She is becoming a mommy's girl. Oops!

  • I may be creating a similar monster.  I let my brother hold DS, but he started fussing within a few minutes.  He calmed down as soon as he was handed back to me.  I need to start letting other people hold him more before it's too late. >.<;

  • K's ok with being put down for a short while but she will start fussing after a few minutes.  Depending on what I'm doing I'll either pick or up or let her fuss for awhile.  If I picked her up every time she fussed I'd never had time to use the bathroom or eat.  I'm noticing now that if I let her fuss for a few minutes she'll calm down a bit and give me a minute or two of quiet before starting up again.

  • DS will be happy being put down if he's still near me/DH & being included. Bouncy seat in the bathroom while I shower & talk to him, highchair in the kitchen where he can watch while we cook. Tummy time while we sit next to him & play.

    DD is very similar to this. If we are near her and she can see us, she is generally pretty happy. It can be frustrating, but I still melt every time I come into view and she laughs or smiles at me. :)
