? about testing without RPL

From all of the treatments that I have had, I have only had one confirmed pregnancy and miscarriage.  Since I'm not experiencing RPL, my RE is not encouraging additional testing (plus in Canada you have to beg them to do anything that the province pays for). 

My question is, has anyone gone ahead with the whole list of testing even without RPL?  Or am I now being ridiculous in asking for unnecessary testing?

ETA: I had an HSG two year ago that showed clear tubes and then I had a hysteroscopy last August.  Is it worth it to do another HSG?

How many transfers have you had total?  Repeat failure of IVF can also be a reason to pursue more testing.

I had the RPL panel run after our 2nd loss. My clinic assured me that it was more likely lightening striking twice, but I felt I couldn't continue costly treatments without knowing. Also I didn't want to go through a loss again (not that a RPL panel will stop a loss, but if there was a cause, then we could try to prevent it.)

I was happy that they ran it. And our results were all negative. So it was lightening striking twice. I hope.

I'm going to ask our RE about doing a test for DNA fragmentation at our WTF tomorrow. We'll see what she thinks.

I would push for RPL and immune testing if possible.

I feel like when you have to go to these "extremes" to get pregnant all this testing should be done up front, it's just b/w.  I feel like b/w is cheaper than repeated cycles and losses.

Thanks for the reminder.  I would think 1 loss + two failed transfers is enough to warrant a further look.  Most of what I have read in terms of repeat IVF failure is auto immune, though.  And my RE is stubborn about even considering it, let alone testing for anything. 

One thing that might be worth looking into if you haven't is being tested for celiac's.  Women going through IF are 100x more likely to test positive than the general population.  (it's asymptomatic)  But the general gist/idea is that you aren't absorbing enough nutrients from food and vitamins so your linning isn't very nourshing to the developing embryo.  I'm still waiting to hear on my results for that one.

When i cycled with Houston ivf, he ran rpl tests on me without me without me even asking. Have you thought about getting a second opinion next time you are in Houston? Just being creative, maybe a clinic here can do the testing for you.

Yes, celiac's is one thing I had tested right off the bat when I started seeing a naturopath about three years ago.  Good Luck with your results!  I hope you get the result you would like to see from that test!

I totally agree and that's why I can't figure out why they don't just do it!

This is what we did. Everything came back normal, but if I was going to invest the money in IVF I wanted to know there wasn't something that we could fix, that could prevent it from working.

My RE requires some of the RPL tests and additional immune tests prior to IVF regardless of loss or not.  

After I lost the twins I had the full work up, which found a few more things but are treated the same way as the things we already knew about. (Lovenox and BA)

If you can get them to do it, I would for sure.  If it can help prevent a loss or help with implantation which immune issues impair, I totally think it is worth it.

I now have a requisition for a full RPL work up and another HSG.  I don't know what it will reveal, but I feel happy.
